My feet were silent over the marble floor, my breaths barely audible even for me. The midnight moon spread its ghostly fingers through the large, glass windows, reflecting against the pools of blood that littered the floors.
I wore a tight black t-shirt and equally as tight dark leggings that emphasized the slimness of my slender legs and the way my waist curve in on top of my hips. My bronze ringlets had been pulled into a tight pony-tail at the beginning of the mission, but at some point the hair-tie had been torn out allowing my locks to fall freely, bringing out my wide, green eyes.
Cold sweat brought an uncomfortable chill to the back of my neck. It bothered me only when my mind somehow managed to wander to unimportant matters such as school and what I was going to have to eat when I returned home later tonight.
Something moved to my right. I whipped round, raising the stake in front of me. How many more of these creatures could there be in this bloody place?
At first, there was nothing but an empty corridor, but then I found myself glaring at a curvy female. Her hair was a straight blonde and her blue eyes cat-like. A pair of pearl-white fangs bulged from beneath her top lip dangerously.
"In your own time," I grumbled, challenging the beast. Their kind hated to be challenged.
"You are much too confident, human," she spat, racing forward like the idiot she was. I dodged her fist and slammed my own into her stomach before driving the stake into her back, making sure it burrowed right into her hard flesh before pulling it back out.
"Have to be since I'm in a world of cocky bastards like you," I replied to the corpse, feeling her cold blood spill onto my hand. I lowered her motionless body to the ground and then wiped the weapon clean. "Not so pretty now, are we?" I smirked.
Then I turned, heading for the final staircase in the ungodly building.
One more, I thought, trying to keep my cool despite the excitement of the prospect. One more monster and then you can leave.
There were only two more rooms to check in the mansion. Despite it being like a vampire haven, the body count hadn't been as high as I'd expected. In an hour, only forty blood-suckers didn't exist anymore thanks to me.
Well, forty one if you included my next target.
Padding my way up the rickety, spiral steps to the last two rooms, I found a slight fear prickling over my skin. The further up I went, the more trapped I felt. Why did this final vampire choose to isolate itself from the others? What was so special about this one?
Oh well, it didn't matter. It was going to die anyway.
Once at the top, my path was blocked by two doors opposite one another. I gripped the stake tighter in my right hand, feeling extremely anxious despite all of the training I'd gone through.
Which door, I thought angrily, darting my gaze from one to the other as if they were going to explode. After several seconds, there was the faint sound of a floorboard creaking.
The left door.
Not thinking twice, I silently crept to it, fingertips touching onto the handle. This was it. No turning back.
