01. it's not just a crush

nini shook her head with a sigh as she put her phone down and walked out of her room, all dressed for the day

"good morning." she mumbled as she sat down at the counter

maya and gina snorted a laugh as they exchanged looks

"you good there?" gina asks with a laugh, popping a small piece of toast in her mouth

"no, didn't you see her rant? she's checking up on how to kill ricky for exposing herself to a certain someone." maya smirks

"you two better not start!" nini groans, slumping further down in her chair from embarrassment

"you know, lucas does know you exist. so you could maybe - i don't know - talk to him?" gina suggests

"you're one to talk with you liking ej since middle school and not telling him until senior year of high school." nini said

"at least she has the guy now though." maya sings

"oh look at the time! we're going to be late!" nini exclaims, changing the topic of the conversation as she shot up from the table, followed by maya and gina as they all made their way out of their apartment

throughout the drive, nini listened to her friends annoy her on talking to lucas, or they just teased her for having a crush on him.

nini was always a confident girl for the past few years now, speaking her mind and quite a goofball with her friends, but then when lucas was around, it's as though everything went back in time and she became that shy girl from high school again.

she'd been best friends with everyone apart from maya since middle school; of course being closer with certain ones and meeting maya in elementary school and being best friends with her ever since.

ricky introduced lucas to everyone in the second year of college and they all became a little group, nini never had a real conversation with him since they were never alone, and when they were, she would freeze up.

"okay, we're at your stop neens," gina beams, pulling over at the building

nini opens the car door "i'll tell the husband you say hi,"

gina rolls her eyes playfully as the brunette gets out of the car and maya leans forward

"oh and can you sneak some of those snacks you guys are given?!" she calls

nini shakes her head with a smile "i'll see you guys later,"

"remember we're going to sugar house later so please don't stay late to work." maya pleads

gina nods and waves goodbye as the brunette girl closes the car door and walks into her work building, ready for a day of work
