30. questioning pain

ricky arrived into the sugarhouse and noticed the entire group - with the exception of lucas - sitting at their usual spot

he had an entire day to himself today and decided on forgetting the kiss with nini ever happened. he couldn't ruin or jeopardize their friendship and he was happy with maya. he definitely was happy with maya.

"hey guys," he exclaims with a small smile as he sat down next to maya, putting his arm around her as she scooted closer to him

nini looked up at the sound of his voice and felt even more guilty now.

she was already feeling a little weird with maya but now she couldn't read ricky. she knew he felt a little weird too, he had to seeing as they kissed. he hasn't replied to her text today and she didn't know whether he was mad or annoyed at her.

"okay, so movie night tonight, what movie?" ej asks excitedly

kourtney gasps "beauty and the beast!"

"no!" big red groans "big hero 6"

"how about high school musical?!" carlos and seb suggest, everyone chuckling

"who's turn was it to pick anyway?" ashlyn asks them

"i think lucas..." nini mutters, everyone going silent at the mention of him before she cleared her throat "uh-why don't we just have a harry potter marathon then?"

"oh yes!" maya exclaims happily while everyone nods in agreement

ricky had his eyes on nini for a few seconds and when she looked at him, he quickly moved his gaze away from her and takes a deep breath "i'll go get the coffees,"

nini felt a sharp pain through her heart when he kissed maya's temple and stood up from the couch, making his way to the counter

"i-i'll go help him..." nini mumbles, sitting up and quickly making her way towards him

she felt the nerves rising with every step she took, not knowing how this was going to go as she arrived at the counter

"h-hey," she says, causing for him to jump up slightly and turn around swiftly just as the waiter walks off

"oh-hey," he swallows, looking at her

"hey," she replies before taking a deep breath "c-can we talk?"

ricky nods slowly and leans back against the counter

"uh-about-last night...i-i'm sorry." she tells him "i-i don't know what came over me, it was-stupid and wrong and you're my best friend. i don't want to lose you. and you're with maya-she's-"

ricky took a deep breath and shakes his head "don't worry about it. it's cool-we weren't really in the right-head space-"

"yeah...exactly." she nods "i-i guess i was just...uh-i was hurt by everything that happened with lucas."

the words hit ricky and he felt a sort of pain inside of him, his heart sinking just a bit but he pushed the feeling away and cleared his throat

"right. yeah, well-no worries. we're cool." he smiles

nini feels her heart flutter and she takes a deep breath "are you sure?"

he nods "yeah, of course."

"so-we're still on for lunch tomorrow at my work right?" she asks

"definitely," he assures her as the coffees arrive and they both take them, making their way back to the table

nini knew she couldn't do anything about her feelings for ricky. he was with maya and he was obviously happy with her. so all she could do was be happy for him and be his best friend, and she was at least thankful that he didn't let her feelings get in the way of it.
