Pony walked with me towards the tack room to find four extra halters and a couple of lead ropes.
"Here" I looked over at Ponyboy, "let's take these to Mrs. Miller"
"O-okay" he shrugged, following me out.
"Bet you I get to the trailer first" I challenged.
"Oh, you are so on; but I should warn you that I run track"
"Very well then, but since we're around horses let's just stick with the basic walk"
"Okay," he replied, as we both got into our racing potions.
"Okay; ready, set, go" and just like that the race was underway, I kept up a nice fast-walking pace. While Ponyboy sprinted beside me. I thought for sure that I was going to win this-- the trailer was so close. But alas... I guess my victory just wasn't meant to be because I saw Ponyboy coming up the rear.
"Oh no!" I thought, "Maybe if I can pick up my pace a bit, I could still win" but it was too late.
"Haha, I win" he exclaimed, placing a hand on the trailer. As he turned to face me he replied. "Don't feel too bad Alex, that was truly a great idea for a walking race you had back there"
"Yeah, well... you just wait until next time"
"Wait... next time?"
"Yeah, next time where I plan to win"
"Oh really?" this time he narrowed his eyes.
"Yes really, I declare a rematch"
"Okay Alex, just say when"
"Umm, when? Can I get back to you on that?"
He shrugged "sure"
"Good, because I'll need some help here" Mrs. Miller piped up.
"What?" I turned to see Mrs. Miller standing behind me.
"...and not to mention that you two promised to help me"
"Sure thing, we'll get right on that" Pony replied nervously. Grabbing my hand, he pulled me towards the trailer.
"Now, that's more like it". she said, crossing her arms triumphantly as she supervised us.
