I woke up by the sound of the Adhan, it was five in the morning, i completed my morning prayers and tasks. Helped ummi prepare breakfast before she headed back into her room for a short nap. I loved having my breakfast early almost around 6.30.After having done with the Quran, I get up heading towards the dining room, just then the front door is knocked in a slightly harsh manner.
"Who could be that knocking early morning?" I made my way towards the door. Upon opening, it was Amiyrah, but what was she doing at my place early in the morning? I look at her with raised eyebrows.
Gesturing her to walk in. She looked quite sad and terrified. My heart ached seeing her in such a state, but It wasn't my decision to torture her. In fact it wasn't a torture but merely a lesson. Her innocent eyes were filled with sadness and disappointment.
I asked her to have a sit, she kept scanning the surrounding not feeling pleased by the small apartment we lived in, whereas she lived in a huge spacious mansion.
Few minutes later, she poured her heart out. Denying for marriage. Her voice sounded quite pissed off when i refused her proposal. Veins on her forehead were visible. She screamed too, but I quickly stopped her before she could wake ummi up. I was in all circumstances, trying to avoid drama and unwanted chaos in the house.
Before leaving, she whispered "Gold digger" which really got into my nerves. I slammed the door shut after she left. Cupping my fist with my other hand, before i could bang it on the door. I quickly sat down and calmed myself.
I wish i could ease her from the mental torment she was going through, but she also was quite stubborn and a hard nut to crack.
It was almost midday, when i decided to ask ummi if it was right to take the proposal the very same day.
"But Ayaan according to our rituals we have to take something for the bride."
"We can get her a set on our way."
"Ayaan, we are not even well enough to buy an expensive set."
"Who said expensive?" Looking at her with questioning eyes.
"But..." i cut her off before she could finish up with what she wanted to say.
"They know our financial status, if you agree, then i can call them to inform bout our arrival."
She scratched her nose in confusion and shrugged her shoulders half way not knowing on what to say.
"Well, however you find it okay"

The doors of the mansion opened as the cab drove inside, parking by at their front huge glass door with wooden engraved frame, opposite of it was a huge gazebo and a small fish pond with a tiny miniature of waterfall.I could feel slight nervousness and my palms quite sweaty. Taking a deep breath and calming myself down. "You can do this" I murmured to myself.
We walked in through the entrance which was made of marbled floor and wooden staircases. "Unique combination" whispered Reemah, nudging her elbow on the side of my rib.
"How beautiful must it be living here? Unlike our small cubic like house." Looking at the surrounding in amazement.
"Sshhh, our small house is better. You don't wanna go through what goes about behind these huge walls"
"Well, you pretty much have the knowledge in a short span of time?" She spoke with raised eyebrows and a smile playing on her face.
"Welcome, have a sit as i acknowledge Mr. Asad of your arrival" a young lady guided us through the hallway.
Reemah kept studying the mansion and it's huge white crystal chandeliers hanging above. Well organized white couches and a bluish with a mix of gold marble carpet.
Gold and silver furniture adroitly designed. Big silver vases with red and white roses competently displayed.
"They got a unique taste of design i must say. Unlike other mansions which have common choices." Reemah whispers with her mouth wide open in amazement.
"I wish Ramiyah was with us, she would be the most excited."
Our youngest sister had to depart for her further studies to turkey, the same university i went to, just two weeks back. We missed her dearly, but this marriage stuff wasn't something i had planned for this sooner.
Mr. Asad walks into the lounge area. His eyes sparkling and mouth curved into a smile. Happiness seemed to be flowing out of his body from all sides.
"Assalamualeikum" he greeted and sat on the opposite side of us. Whereas, we all squeezed and sat on one long couch.
"Waaleikumsalam" soon after Mrs. Asad arrived. She had a confused look on her face, difficult to identify wether she was happy or disappointed.
Placing a half smile on her face and sat on the single sitter next to Mr. Asad."I'm really happy that you've considered our daughter as yours and i hope they will both lead a happy married life." Mr.Asad conversing with Ummi as his eyes welled up with tears.
"Worry not, in shaa Allah we will take good care of her, and in fact Ayaan and Amiyrah can live in the house given, we will visit them often."
"You can live along with them, i have no objection."
Ummi and Mr. Asad's conversation started fading as soon as my eyes caught the glance of Amiyrah walking down in tattered jeans and a black crop top. Hair well straightened and tucked on one side exposing the other part of the shoulder.
She looked undeniably beautiful but it was against our culture and I daren't move, I daren't even breathe, I'm frozen to the spot. I can feel my heart pounding in my chest...duh-duhn, duh-duhn. Deep heavy breathes sound nearby. The hairs on my arms stand to attention, as a militia of chills march down my spine.
Ummi and Reemah sat there frozen with no movement. I quickly hold Ummi's hand and whisper "don't react to whatever I speak."
"Astaghfirullah" were the words that left her mouth.
"Ayaan is this the girl we came here for? Don't you think she is quite modern?" Reemah speaks in a loud tone catching attention of Mr. Asad who had no idea the state of Amiyrah was."I'm sorry did i miss hear you?" Asked Mr.Asad.
"Nope, have a look behind you." Gesturing with her face motioning towards the staircase behind Mr. Asad. Before i could stop Reemah, she had already spilled the beans. looks on Mr. Asad weren't good. He seemed quite angry but most of all, it was pure disappointment displayed in his eyes.
He stood there for a minute before placing his hand on the left side of his chest and slowly sitting back on the couch.
I quickly rushed towards him and hand him a glass of water. Amiyrah, upon seeing Mr. Asad in such a state, immediately ran towards him and got into a kneeling position holding his knee with her face buried.
He suddenly snapped his leg off her grip and moved it on the sideways. "Do you think your lil fake crocodile tears will melt down my heart?" His words sounding like that of a breathless person.
"You have let me down Amiyrah." His voice shaking in disappointment. "I never expected that coming from you." Immediately stood up grasping my palms into his hands, asking for an apology.
"I'm very sorry to have you and your family go through such a phase with my daughter. But, at least you have all witnessed her true side." His gazes fixed down on the ground.
"Ayyan, you can reject this proposal, I cannot have your life ruined for the bad and inappropriate behavior of my daughter whom i feel ashamed of."
Tears dropping off tipping down.On hearing that Amiyrah sounded displeased rather than pleased. She knew what she did really caused an impact on Mr. Asad. She had shattered him into million pieces.
I took in a deep breath and looked at Ummi with assurance that she will support my decision whatsoever.
