A/N later on this chapter I judge sexual preferences. I want to point out that I'm in no way homophobic or support these types of criticism. I'm just depicting the period's homophobic beliefs

When Bucky arrived at Steve's house he saw the door halfway open. He opened the door and walked inside. All lights were switched off. All except for Steve's bedroom. Bucky walked towards there and peeked through a small creek. He saw his ma and his father comforting mrs Rogers. She was sitting on the bed holding her sons hand. Steve was paler than his sheets and if there wasn't an occasional cough you'd think he was dead. On the other end stood father Nelson. At that moment Bucky's world went black. Next thing he knows he is attacking the father screaming shut up over and over. Both Winnie and her husband tried to stop their son but when he pushed the father aside they forgot about Bucky and rushed to catch him before he fell off the window.

"Steve?" Bucky knelt beside him "Steve can you hear me?" Tears were forming in his eyes "please don't leave me pal. What am I gonna do without you? Who am I gonna save from all the back alley fights?"

"Hmm" a hoarse voice replied "Bucky?" Steve sounded like a ghost

"Yea it's me" Bucky smiled "what you thought I'd let you die in peace?" He forced a laugh

Steve just coughed. Loudly.

"Come on you punk. You can't leave me. Not now" Bucky was now crying

"James love" Winnifred spoke "let's let the Rogers have their last moments alone" she suggested

"NO" Bucky yelled at her "he is not going anywhere. He is going to be ok. Aren't you Stevie?" He turned to the priest " and you can shove the last rights up your holy ass" Bucky looked furious and desperate at the same time

"JAMES" everyone said at once but they were all cut off by Steve's cough

"Hey Steve" Bucky ignored them " it's gonna be ok. You are gonna be fine. I'm going to take good care of you you hear me? You'll see. This day next week you will be kicking someone's ass. Or at least will be trying to" he added "but please don't give up. I need you punk. I-I-I love you you Steve" he whispered that last part.

Unfortunately though George heard it. His eyes widened in shock and without further notice he grabbed Bucky by the arm and dragged him out of the room and into their own apartment.

"What did you just say?" He threw Bucky on the floor "WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY"

"Nothing. I didn't say anything" he replied

"Oh so I'm going crazy. I imagined you saying I love you Steve! Do you think I'm stupid?" He pushed Bucky back down as he tried to get up

"I told him what he needed to hear! If you haven't noticed he is dying in there. Besides we are best friends so yea I love him. . .as a friend" he saw his father's expression and added "sir"

"Bloody fucking hell. You must think I'm braindead if you think I'm buying this" he punched Bucky "how long has this been going on between the two of you? How many men have you even been with huh?" He yelled " oh God. We are going to be the neighbourhoods best gossip. Is that what you want? To be called a fairy? What did we ever do to you? Why do you punish us like this?" George asked between punches. He was furious

Bucky couldn't speak. He wasn't gay. The words had slipped his mouth. He didn't mean to say them. But then again he couldn't imagine a world without Steve. He was the only one who could make him laugh when everything seemed dark. He gave him hope. Just his presence in the room cheered him up. But Bucky liked girls. Right? He went in dates and he found them attractive too. But those eyes. Steve's eyes. Steve was the last person he thought of before he slept and his first thought when he woke up.
