Chapter 6
Dexter's POV
Princess Cleo situates herself comfortably once we board the space ship. She closes her eyes, preparing to take a nap to make up for sleep lost due to the intruder. I hate to interrupt after all the crazy things that happened yesterday but I have to ask, "What did you think of Abby?"
She opens one eye to glare at me before replying, "I think she is wonderful and trustworthy. I don't think she is the one who stole the potions, if that is what you are asking."
"Of course not, I just noticed that she acts different from all the other Felinites I have ever met," I say.
"Are you suspicious of her just because she is different?" Princess Cleo asks appalled.
"No, no," I huff realizing that there is no easy way to say this. "Princess Cleo, your father has made it clear to me that he does not trust this new friend of yours. I need to know what all you found odd about her."
She bolts upright in her seat, "There is nothing to suspect about Abby. She is a normal and innocent Felinite. Dexter, do not hurt her or I will have you tried as a criminal and banished to the cruelest and most horrible world I can find that is far away from me."
I blink several times while I soak this in. Princess Cleo has never threatened me or anyone else. She must be serious about protecting Abby, but why? It could be because they look similar enough to be sisters. Princess Cleo could suspect that her father had an affair. That would produce a Felinite who looked closely related to the princess and explain why, since they don't have the same mother, Abby doesn't have the royal birthmark. Queen Nala was a born royal while King Sebastian married into the line, meaning his illegitimate child would not display the royal birthmark.
I know that that isn't possible though. The king only ever had one child. And that child is Princess Cleo. "Why are you protecting her? You don't seriously believe that the two of you are related just because..." I begin but she interrupts me.
"It is none of your business what I do or do not believe. Just know that Abby is innocent and that you are not to harm her or ever bring this discussion back up. Case closed," she says before closing her eyes again.
I walk over to look out a window as planets zoom past in a blur. If you do not pay close enough attention you can easily miss each one that we pass. The small blue one is Stepis, named after the king's surname. Then there is Iceworld, which is self-explanatory. The whole world is made of ice and the creatures that live their love the freezing cold weather. Far off in the distance, I can barely make out Satera, the Edacions' planet.
I enter the pilot's quarters and lean against the wall as I watch his work. "How much longer?" I ask impatiently
"Not too much longer, sir," the pilot replies without turning to look at me.
I roam through the rest of the ship without stopping to talk to anyone else. The ship only has one long corridor that runs in a circle past all the rooms. There is the sitting room, where there are twenty seats. A kitchen, the pilot's quarter, the lookout, and the Weaponry Control. The Weaponry Control is where the guards control the weapons from when the ship is under attack. This ship is one of the smaller ones, so there is nothing else.
"Prepare for landing in fifteen minutes," a voice announces over the intercom.
I rush back to the sitting room and gently shake Princess Cleo's shoulder. "We are almost there," I tell her as I buckle up in a seat by a window.
