Lily drove my only automatic vehicle, a BMW that my grandfather gifted to me when I got my license. We couldn't talk in the house and risk Dad coming home (who, by the way, was still MIA). We couldn't chat in Zane's place. I wasn't interested in people overhearing our conversation. I was sure it would bite us in the ass later.

Since I was high and tipsy, I let her drive and pointed directions and where I wanted to go. She parked the car in the parking lot of my old high school, Maple Hills. It was only a fifteen-minute car ride, and the roads weren't that bad for her drive on. Plus, what a better place to discuss things.

As soon as she parked the car, she grabbed NYU's letter from her jacket pocket. She displayed it right in front of me with a big smile on her face. Safe to say, I was a little confused.

"I don't know why I'm starting with this damn letter, but I am," She sighed happily, "This is an acceptance letter to NYU."

I opened my mouth to congratulate her. Unfortunately, she stopped me, and she continued to speak, "Let me ramble on and on because I feel that I don't speak enough to you about the most important things. Things that affect us."

What the princess wants, the princess gets. I kept my mouth shut, and I let her talk. Honestly, seeing her in front of me, happy and giddy, was enough for me to shut up. I wanted to observe her and take notes of what she was like at her most comfortable. Lord knows how hard it was to be truly happy while with me.

"I was at Zane's house an hour before you saw me," She confessed, "I wanted to talk to Aunt Dianne and see if she was serious about getting me registered in the school. We settled it. She pulled some strings, and I'm attending NYU next fall."

What the fuck? I was smart enough to piece the puzzle pieces she was dropping in front of me. It was pretty convenient that I was starting my rookie season with the Nets this upcoming year. And now, she was attending NYU next school year. It only meant one thing.

"Ugh!" She groaned, pulling me out of my trance, "Why can't you just let me surprise you? No. You have to analyze and ruin everything," She pouted, crossing her arms in front of her chest like a little kid.

I laughed, "I don't know what you're talking about. You're the one analyzing me."

She groaned again but continued, "Anyway, as I was saying, I know about your hectic schedule as soon as we get back. I wanted you to know that you never have to worry about me. I'll be here when you're done with practices, games and conditioning. I have no plans leaving your side."

Her face contorted into a solemn one, and before I could even familiarize myself with what she said, she was speaking again, "Your father came to Heaford. He came to see Chris and me.

"That's how I know about your practices with the Nets. He tried to stir me away from you. Telling me that your time will be consumed with basketball and you'd have no time for me. I don't care if you're you spend most of your time at the court. As long as at the end of the day, you're coming home to me, and you've been loyal to me, play as much basketball you want."
