There was an abundance of assignments and quizzes due by the end of the week. Most of my time was consumed with studying endless nights at the library or at my study table back in the dorm. Thanksgiving break was a month away so I had no clue why there were so many things due.
Mona was dragging me to a basketball tonight. She said it was the start of the championship game. There were a few games happening to determine who would make the playoffs. No doubt Ridgeview would have a shot at the trophy.
It had been a week since Jaylen took me out to play basketball. It had been a week since I last talked to him. I didn't know whether to be hurt or be glad about the situation. It at least gave me the time to study without any distractions.
After we ate at the diner, he drove me home in silence. He didn't want to say anything neither did I. One thing though, nothing about it made me uncomfortable. For once, I liked the silence between us.
"Where did you hide those clothes? This is the first time I'm seeing them," Mona stated as she looked at me up and down. She being overdramatic. I was wearing a cropped brown off-the-shoulder knit sweater with a pair of straight-cut denim jeans.
"Shut up. I wear clothes like these all the time," I mentioned which was true. They weren't as exposed as this one but still. Massachusetts' weather still allowed me to wear clothes like this.
"Are you trying to impress a certain basketball player?" Mona wiggled her eyebrows at me. I knew she was trying to imply Jaylen. She wouldn't be wrong. However, she was not going to hear me admit it.
"Can we just go, asshole?" I shook my head at her as I grabbed my phone and wallet from the table and placed it in my pockets. A purse wouldn't look so nice with this outfit. And I wasn't planning on going anywhere after.
When we got to the gymnasium, there were plenty of eager students and parents on the bleachers. We came just a couple of minutes before the game started so we were bound to find a seat at the top.
Once we were seated, my eyes immediately landed on the captain of Ridgeview's basketball team. Even when I fought so hard to stir my attention away from him, it still landed on Jaylen. And boy, did he looked good.
He was standing in a huddle near their bench, Zane and Kai standing beside him while the rest of the team formed a circle around them. Their coach stood close enough to hear what they were talking about. He was too busy writing on a clipboard to engage in their conversation.
The atmosphere was a little different tonight. Apparently, their game tonight was against Redlands Technical Univerity, again. Mona said they didn't expect to play them right away but the draw said otherwise.
Both referees blew their whistles. Both teams said their chant before heading out on the floor. Ridgeview's basketball team had a serious expression on their face. The opposing team had the same look worn on their faces. Hmm, very serious game.
