I was alone when I dropped off Kayla at the airport. Seth headed to the university to pick up Mona and Lily, while Zane, Kai, and Drake, went on a booze and food run before heading to my place, getting the place ready.

The universe didn't think I had a bad enough day with spending the whole day at the mall, because when we got to the airport, my father was standing at the entrance of our private jet in his typical crisp, black suit. His eyes fixed on my car as I pulled up with a stoic expression on his face.

"I didn't plan this, I promise," Kayla admitted, turning his head to me. She had a mix of shock and worry look on her face.

She knew firsthand how my father and I interacted. A complete opposite of how he talked to her and Mom. Actually, we never even had a conversation outside of basketball nor have we had a conversation where he didn't raise his voice at me.

Mom was always our referee. She knew how to calm my father down and she always looked at the entirety of the situation rather than just one-side of things. And I always wanted her there too. Dad would get out of hand at times and he would work me over-time.

"Let's just get this over with," I muttered, putting the car in park.

My little sister gave me an apologetic look before unbuckling her seatbelt and got out of the car. I let out a sigh, calming myself down then proceeded to get out of the car. I heard my Dad ask her about the trip and Kayla answering with a smile on her face.

I unlocked the trunk before shutting the door. I could feel his eyes on me, watching every movement that I did. Kayla was doing her best to distract him but, it was no use. We both knew better than that. If Dad had something on his mind, it was going to stay until he talks about it.

My hands carried a couple of shopping bags that didn't fit inside her luggage near the jet's entrance. The flight attendant met me at the staircase and grabbed Kayla's belongings out of my hands and brought them inside the plane.

My father's eyes were fixed on me now, while Kayla's eyes were moving from him to me and waiting for the volcano to erupt. With the cold breeze that came with the night, I stuffed my hands in my pockets to keep them warm.

"Head in the jet, Kayla," Dad commanded her without leaving his eyes on me. Kayla gave me a brief look then nodded before heading up the stairs into the jet.

"When are you heading to New York?"

"Two weeks from now."

"I'd like you to come by the office when you're there," He requested which took me by surprise. This was totally out of his character. I was sure I was going to receive an earful from him.

"Sure. I'll come by," I could count the number of times I visited his workplace in one hand. It wasn't because I didn't want to go there instead, he didn't like any of his family to step foot in there. I never understood and I didn't want to understand.
