My phone vibrated against the table again

My phone vibrated against the table again. Good thing Jaylen was already descending down the stairs to hear it. I picked up my phone and it displayed Unknown Number.

Who in the world would be calling me right now? I let it ring and decided, if they called one more time I would finally answer. My eyes were glued on the phone watching it turn off when the call went to voicemail. Not even a minute later, my phone vibrated against my hand.

After I unplugged my phone, I walked over to my door, shutting it quietly and answering the phone.

"Hello?"

"Gosh, I didn't peg you to be a busy person, Lily. You can't even pick up your phone," A familiar voice said on the other line. Was that Gabriella?

"Gabby?" I asked, speaking my thoughts.

"It was tough trying to find your number. However, having plenty of money kind of help with that," She sighed, happily, "Anyway, I'm calling you to give you a heads-up because I am such a model citizen."

"What the hell are you on about? I don't have time for this."

"You'll make time for this, my dear Lily. It does involve your loverboy there," That got my ears perked up. I sat down on my bed, fiddling with the ends of my corduroy a-line skirt. Whatever she had to say, I had to listen now.

"What is it?"

"It seems like Jaylen threw everyone off being drafted by the Nets. Of course, you are thinking there must be some kind of consequence that is waiting for him when gets back.

"You are indeed correct. I know about the bribe Uncle Adam asked you. But he doesn't think like a true businessman, you know? I, however, do think like one," I rolled my eyes at her statement. She was talking too much and taking too long to get to the point.

"So, I shared my idea with him. Do you have any ideas, hmm, Lily? C'mon, we need class participation here," Gosh, this bitch is actually so annoying. I can't imagine Jaylen dealing with her for the rest of his life.

"I'm sure it's some kind of blackmail," I rolled my eyes again. Knowing her, it consisted of either blackmail or bribe. She did mention she had plenty of money.

"You are smart! Just like your brother, huh?" My heart dropped. I feel like I had an idea of where this was going. I wasn't dumb. This was her segway.

"Fucking cut to the chase already, Gabby. I truly do not have time for your shit," I said through gritted teeth.

She chuckled before answering, "You're honestly no fun, Lily. But if you wish. Uncle Adam already accepted the fact Jaylen is playing for the Nets. Your relationship with him, on the other hand, cannot be a thing."

"So, Lily, this is where you smart comes in. If you'd like your brother to keep his job, you'll leave Jaylen. If you choose to be dumb and stay with him, expect your brother to be jobless next month."
