I forgot how much Zane and Kai liked to party after games. It was part of our routine for the last three years of our university life. Aztec, the club I brought Lilliana to before, would have a section ready for us in the VIP after every game.
Lilliana headed to her dorm to freshen up and grab some clothes for tonight. I wanted to accompany her but, she told me to stay put and she was going to be quick. It was the perfect opportunity for my two best friends to chat with me.
"I heard the girl's volleyball team would be at the club tonight," Zane told me while he was scrolling through his phone.
The only reason why he's bringing this up because he didn't see Lilliana with me. When the two met me at the parking lot, she was already making her way to her dorm. Kai looked eager to head to the club already and I hated that I became the party-pooper of the group.
Ever since I met Lilliana, partying didn't seem to grab my interest. In the beginning, I still went out with them. But once we got serious, I left that life and part of me behind. Hooking up with girls and drinking myself blind only left a bitter feeling in my gut.
"Shit! Really?" Kai exclaimed. He had a goofy smile on his face as his eyes twinkled with something I couldn't even tell because once he blinked, it was gone.
I shook my head, "Lily just went up to her dorm to grab some clothes then we are heading home."
Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned my girl because now, there was a different type of smile on Kai's face. There was a genuine and excited smile on his face and he couldn't standstill.
At least they liked her. Kai always enjoyed her cooking and her company. Zane seemed to protective over her, even though she didn't need anyone looking after her. She knew how to handle herself.
"Are you guys good?" Zane asked.
He was always the perceptive one out of all of us. If I ever needed to admit it, he and Lilliana almost had the same personality. Almost. Their eyes and perception could pick out anything in any situation given.
That being said, I wasn't surprised that he brought it up. Kai wouldn't even mention it. The only thing running through his mind was food and possibly―always, never a possibility―sex. He never liked to stick his nose in anyone else's business other than his. Zane should take some notes from him.
"I'd like to think so. We are going to head home and talk," I responded but, my eyes were on my phone.
Erik, the manager from Brooklyn Nets, emailed me about signing the paperwork for our contract. I needed to head to New York within the month for, at least, a weekend. I emailed him back, letting him know I was available the weekend, two weeks from now.
"You better fix shit with her," Kai threatened, "Or else, I might have to beat you up for taking away my home-cooked meals."
I rolled my eyes at him and stuffed my phone into my pocket, "We're going to grab some food first. I'm starving."
