Melody's POV.
"Melody! Come on, my parents need you to hurry up if we're going to make it back at a decent time," my cousin Reggie called up the stairs of my now old home. I wiped my tears and grabbed my last box before exiting my bedroom.
"It'll be okay, Mel. I'm here for you and you'll have me through all of this," he smiled while taking the box out of my hands to carry to the car for me. "Besides, I'm sure you'll become friends with my bandmates in no time and then you'll have us to hang out with."
"Yeah, I'm sure they're great Reg. Thank you, for everything.." I smile before looking back down at my feet as we exit my childhood home.
It's been a week since my parents died in a tragic car accident. Now I have to move to my cousins house, it's only a few hours away, but I've always lived here and change can be so hard. I have to switch schools and everything is so crazy, but I'm so happy that I have Reggie. It's true, cousins are like a built in best friend.
We finished packing up the car and I said a final goodbye to my childhood home, and the only place I have ever really known.
Time skip to Reggie's house.
"Come on, Mel. I'll help you take stuff up to your room and organize it," Reggie said as I followed him up to my new room. Right across from his. He smiled at me just before opening the door to show my near dream room.
"Oh my goodness, REG!" I smiled looking at the black bedspread and dark red pillows. "I love this! Thank you so much! You really are the best cousin ever!" I grinned hugging him once he put my few boxes down.
"Yeah, I figured you'd like a change from that frilly pink room you never changed from when we were kids," he laughed at me.
"Hey! I never had time. I was too busy writing-"
"Writing songs, I know. I think you'll get along with my friend Luke. He writes most of the songs for our band, Sunset Curve," he chuckled.
"Tell your friends," I laughed.
Just then his phone started to ring. <let's pretend they had semi-decent phones at this time> "Guys I'm really busy.. Yeah, Melody moved in today.. I know Luke.. Just let me ask then!" he slightly shouted into the phone. 'Mel, would you like to come with me to the studio and watch the band rehearse? I only ask because I don't want you to be alone right now," Reggie asks me.
"Oh, sure I guess. It'd be nice to meet them already," I smiled at my best friend. "Are they nice?"
"Are you guys going to be nice?" he asks laughing at me. "They said yes, I know you don't have many clean clothes right now so there's a big dark grey hoodie in the closet you can wear of mine, now get ready to go!!" he exclaimed.
I went to my suitcase and grabbed a clean pair of dark skinny jeans with fishnets under the rips and a pair of socks and put them on before grabbing Reggie's hoodie and throwing it on.
Reggie's POV.
"You guys better be nice and not act super crazy. Melody has been going through a lot recently and she can get really anxious with too much chaos," I said into the phone once I had entered my own room to get ready to go.
"Why is your cousin living with you now, again?" Luke questioned.
"Because her parents passed away, dude. He told us yesterday," Alex chimed in.
"Oh.." Luke sighed. "I'm sorry man, I forgot."
"It's whatever, just don't mention it too much around her, I'm not sure how she'll react. She's been putting on a fake smile all day," I sighed knowing one of my closest friends was in pain. "Just be aware of what you say around her, I know y'all don't always handle emotions well," I slightly laughed before hanging up the phone.
I walked over to Mel's room to see her putting on her high top converse.
"Let's go!" I cheered grabbing her and grabbing my base before leaving the house.
