Luke's POV.

We packed our things and I immediately grabbed Melody and wrapped my arm around her. Her next class was with Reggie and I knew where his current class was so I started to walk us there, trying to put a bit of distance between us and Brandon. We ran into Reggie and Alex, and I handed Melody off.

"You guys take Melody to her class, and I will see you next period in the music room for free period before lunch. I've got something to take care of really quick before I head to my class," I stated, searching the halls to see if Brandon was following us. I finally caught a glimpse of him and headed towards where he was spying, next to a locker.

"I'm warning you now, Richards. Stay away from Melody. Don't think I don't know what happened last year with Samantha. Everyone knows you stalked her and scared the shit out of her. Melody doesn't need that, and she's not interested in you," I said sternly.

"Not that it's any of your business, Patterson, but I will do whatever I want. And last I knew, you didn't own Melody, and she is single," he smirked. I was disgusted.

Without thinking I blurted, "Well, now actually that has changed. Melody is not single. She is now, officially my girlfriend," I lingered on the last word of my sentence.

"Oh really? We'll see about that then," he slammed his locker shut and turned away from me and walked down the hall, I assume to his class.

I checked the time and went down the hall to my next class.

Melody's POV.

Reggie and I left our Math class and headed towards the music room to meet up with Alex and Luke. I sat down against a wall at the front of the room and pulled out my notebook.

"Hey guys, I had an idea for a song, it's called edge of great," I stood up and went to the piano and laid out my notebook before starting to play.

Running from the past

Tripping on the now

What is lost can be found, it's obvious

Alex sat next to me, reading ahead. No doubt he was coming up with a beat.

And like a rubber ball

We come bouncing back

We all got a second act, inside of us

"And then you all would come in with a loud beat on all of your instruments for the chorus, and I would snag my mic and get up from the piano," I said, getting all excited.

Reggie grabbed his bass and started to strum a few notes with me as I played the piano. I continued to hum the melody of the song we were working on.

"I heard you guys down the hallway," Luke chuckled as he entered the music room. "Little miss powerful vocals is gonna attract a crowd if you don't chill for a minute," he mocked sitting next to me on the piano bench and snatching my notebook.

"Give that back, unless you're going to give me yours," I joked, attempting to grab my notebook from the guitarist.

"Later, I swear," he smiled.

"Mhmm, okay then," I laughed. He leaned close to me so he could whisper in my ear.

"I do need to talk with you privately soon though, about last night.." he whispered. I once again felt the familiar feeling of my cheeks heating up with blush.

"Yeah, okay," I said and stood up from the piano. "You guys can take my notebook and look at the song so you can get more of a feel for the song and come up with some drum beats, and some bass lines. Luke and I are going to run to a vending machine so I can get some sprite," I announced before exiting the music room after handing my notebook to Alex.
