Dong Hua fought with Tang Yin while Feng Jiu completed the fifth level with great difficulty. They were both tired and yet there was no hesitation in their eyes, only stubbornness. Bai Feng jiu just entered the sixth level when the scene changed. A jet-black snake came into view. Feng Jiu froze. Even if it was just a little snake she had been afraid of them since little.
These levels have tested her combat efficiency. And there was almost no time in between.
Of course, that wasn't all. A giant viper came into view after a few seconds along with his army of snakes. Without wasting time it started spraying its poison. Feng Jiu barely stood in her place. The little snake was still reaching for her along with the army of little snakes while the giant viper just stood at the side like she didn't even need its attention. But when they came in a radius of 10 meters around Feng Jiu, they abruptly stopped. They were all scared witless. A snake quickly ran back to its lord the giant viper and started hissing.
"My Lord, that girl...that girl has a protective covering left by the sacred stone of snakes. Has it made an appearance in so many years? Maybe that girl is from that loathsome tribe which took the stone away an eon ago."
The lord became stiff. The sacred stone possessed by Tang Yin was passed down by her family. The blue-eyed white Pythons were amongst the most powerful snakes thus they took the sacred stone. That stone was supposed to control all snakes under heaven. All snakes worshipped it and yet the Blue pythons decided to covet it for themselves. However, it only became a jewel that couldn't be used by a person who wasn't destined to.
The lord mused for a while before replying. "Withdraw!" he shouted and all the snakes vanished in seconds.
"That girl can't control us but whoever she is the sacred stone wants to protect her. Since that is the case we can't disrespect or hurt her," he mumbled and vanished himself without saying anything to Feng Jiu.
She was stunned and in a daze and then arrived at the seventh challenge the next second. She patted her chest and calmed down a lot.
The seventh level wasn't based on martial art like the previous three. It tested her decisiveness while giving her constant different obstacles one after another to rack her brain and use up her energy. In the end, she passed with great difficulty. However, once she came out of the seventh level she spat out two mouthfuls of blood. Cutting her own tail, fighting without resting and her worries for Dong Hua had finally taken a toll on her.
She sat crossed-legged to cultivate. After all, Feng Jiu was not that powerful just yet. She was only a newly promoted immortal. Her family potential was excellent but how old was she in the Immortal World? Just a teenager.
"Are you still okay?" Feng Jiu murmured knowing there won't be an answer. But she desperately wanted to know. In her heart was an unexplainable feeling which came from being apart and not being able to contact Dong Hua. She was scared for him. She was scared even more, because Dong Hua had hidden the fact from her. If he told her it was not a serious mission she wouldn't have worried but since Dong Hua had gone through the lengths of sending her back first without any message it left her more restless and even hurt.
The Gunsha Jade sensed her pain and a warm current filled with spiritual energy soothed Feng Jiu. She caressed the jade with a smile and within seconds the scene changed again. There was no army she had to fight with, no obstacles. Only three roads.
The roads looked exactly the same. Feng Jiu was puzzled. Test of heart. It's more like probability. The chance of not winning is only one-third? Something is wrong. This can't be about entering any one road headlessly.
Feng Jiu moved forward towards one road but was ejected out. Just as she thought the roads became a blur and appeared before her again. So they changed?
Feng Jiu stood up and walked towards the same road again. Although it was now changed. She had the feeling that maybe the right road had appeared there. Just as she thought, this time she wasn't ejected. She walked on.
"The test of the heart was passed! Surely there are numerous paths in life, nothing is wrong or right. The only strength of the heart is to firmly walk on the path you've chosen even if you fail multiple times before finally being able to walk on it. In life, there are no shortcuts." Feng Jiu excitedly muttered.
The palace was plain and there was a silver light lingering in the surroundings. 9th floor of the pagoda?
A glowing object appeared out of nowhere into space ahead of her. However, she couldn't touch it. Every time she tried to do so her hand would pass through it. She looked around helplessly only to see new paintings on the silver walls. They looked so real. As if the objects were actually trapped inside the space of the painting. This time she was able to touch them but they were only ordinary paintings. She sighed and looked around as new paintings appeared. Then she saw a painting which drew her interest.
There was a man in silver hair and a purple robe. She was stunned. Although the painting didn't show the face. Even if it was an illusion. She could no longer fight her tears. She rushed towards the painting and tried to touch it. She tried to see if there was an opening to the painting.
"Dong Hua" She murmured. Suddenly she was pulled inside. To her surprise, there was indeed a man amongst a flower field. He looked back at her gently.
The space seemed to distort at this moment. It formed a mirror-like barrier in front of her. The scenery in front of her distorted and she could only see Dong Hua's face from a broken piece of space.
She stopped for a moment before choosing to carefully walk through distorted pieces of space. Her mind was in a mess. But she tried her best to focus. Still, because she was distracted when she walked she was injured by the sharp pieces of broken space. But like an obsession she kept walking, just to confirm if it was really him. Her hole clothes were bloodied. Blood was even dripping down her robe but she didn't care.
"Xiao Bai, have you come?"
He walked towards her and pulled her into his embrace. She trembled unable to say a thing. How is it possible? She tried to assess him. But nothing was different. He had cold eyes but towards her they became warm. He grasped her hand and led her beneath a tree.
"Xiao Bai...didn't you say you wanted to build a new home for us and our future fox cubs. I think this place is the safest. Do you like it?" he asked with a smile. Feng Jiu stared at him trying to determine who this man was. Was he really Di Jun? He looked like him and he even talked like him. And he even knows about our plans.
When she was about to question he frowned.
"Are you injured?" He pulled her towards him, touching her wounds as they magically started to heal. However, there were a lot of internal injuries. Dong Hua's worried expression stirred her heart. She froze.
"Are you Di Jun? How are you here?" She asked with watery eyes.
"Xiao Bai, Let's stay here for a while. I'll tell you slowly. Let's heal you first." he started to pull her with him. But Feng Jiu didn't move. He looked back at her with a pained expression.
"Xiao Bai." he beckoned in such a manner that she almost fell into a daze of happiness. A deep longing, a yearning coming to end. Ecstasy.
