Jun...jun?My head tilted at the new nickname as I watch granny coo over Renjun.
"Aw little baby~ You've grown so much!" She spoke in a somewhat familiar language and squishes Renjun's face.
I can't help but let out a snort seeing how he blushes as I try my best to suppress my laughter.
Renjun laughs in embarrassment and pulls away from his granny.
"Nai, stop it." Renjun looked down. His ears were red, appearing to be bashful as I had witnessed him being babied by his granny.
He scratch his head before composing himself.
He cleared his throat, "Er.. Nai, this is Heejun. She's the one that'll be staying with us for a while." He said in the same language as his granny which I now realise is Mandarin after hearing a few familiar words.
I just nod at whatever he had said as I can't fully understand what it meant.
Damn what happen to my three years knowledge of Mandarin?
Renjun seems to pick up my lack of response as I don't know what they were talking about. An idea came to his mind.
"And she's dumb to not know what we're saying." He smiled brightly to not seem as if he had just insulted me.
I was gullible and just smiled back, nodding at whatever he was telling his granny.
Granny slap his arm, "Don't say that. It's not her fault she doesn't understand." She shook her head.
What? Is this some kind of sign that I'm not wanted in here? Oh no. All these thoughts came to me.
Should I leave? I considered.
"Nice to meet you, honey." Granny welcomed me with a hug.
Oh?
"Nice to meet you too, granny." I said in a polite manner, flashing a sweet smile towards her.
"Such a cutie." She said and pinches my cheeks. To say it doesn't hurt was a lie because as soon as she releases her hold, red marks were visible on my cheeks.
This time it was Renjun's turn to snort at me.
"You look like a baboon's butt." He commented while laughing at my face.
I chuckle sarcastically, "Do you want one too?"
He pauses and stop cackling, gaining back his calm and collected self.
"Children, now that we've greeted each other, go and unpack because I've made lunch for you cuties~" Granny spoke up in a sing-song voice to lighten up the mood.
"Thank you, granny." I said.
"It's no big deal, honey." She replied, patting my back softly.
I went ahead to the living room, leaving them together for some private reunion. The living room was quite small but cozy. Blankets sprawled out neatly on the couches with some pillows.
Only now I notice the strong scent of brewing coffee around the house making me reminisce about my parents.
"Feels like home." I whispered to myself before continuing to explore around the house.
Renjun
Granny smiles as she watches Heejun looking around the furnitures.
"She's so sweet." She commented on her in our mother language.
I look at her in disbelief. "Wrong impression, nai." I replied.
Granny turns, "What do you mean? She's really cute and polite. Definitely your style." She reasoned out like it's the obvious fact.
"No." I deadpanned, "She's short, naive and too dumb to understand the situation she's in." I spat the real characteristics about her.
"Junnie, that's your first impression." She puts both her hands on my shoulder before she continues, "What you see in her right now, will change the longer you know her."
I scoff, "I doubt that."
Granny eyed me playfully.
"I'm serious!" I added making her laugh in response.
"What's her situation exactly?" She asked, obviously curious on why I'm suddenly bringing her here.
I shrug her hands off, "You don't have to know." I look away.
She sighs, "You and your secrets. What are you hiding from me?" She shook her head in dismay.
Everything, I whispered inwardly.
"Anyways," she clasps her hands together, "I want a granddaughter-in-law like her." She smiled which crinkles the end of her eyes.
"Mm." I hummed before frowning, "Wait what?"
"Wonderful! Work hard my child." She pumps a fist in tiny and walks away.
"Wait, nai! You don't want a granddaughter-in-law like her!" I chased after her until we're walking side by side.
"I know you like her, junjun." She said.
"You must've misheard what I had said earlier." I started, "She's not granddaughter-in-law material, nai." I fight back.
"You're in denial." She wiggled her brows at me.
"I'm not! I-I just, I'm stating facts!" I argued with her.
"Then why are you stammering. If you're so sure about her then you should be confident." She throws a mischievous look.
"I am! I don't like her!" I said.
Granny shakes her head and opens the door to her room, "Mm keep denying." She said before closing her door.
I was left standing there dumbfounded, "I don't like her! Nai..." I trailed.
Suddenly, the door opens.
"You know the house, show her around okay?" She said sending a sweet smile before slamming the door in my face again.
I sigh.
"I don't like her." I said to myself.
Now where is that girl?
"Song Heejun!"
