Smile Again

Chapter 8

"Ouch, ouch, ouchhh!" I wince in pain as Amelia puts antibiotics on my injuries.

"Sorry, Delia. But we don't need an infection now do we?" Amelia says, putting on band aids now.

"No, I guess not," I'm now holding a cloth to my lip to stop the bleeding. I hear Rose explaining to her mom what happened and Jackie is sitting at the kitchen table listening. I stand up from where I'm sitting and Amelia gets up too. She puts an arm around my shoulder to help her stand from the band aid on her knee and we head into the kitchen.

"That's a real terrible thing to do," Rose mom says.

"Yeah it is. Delia took most of the damage though, she even stood up for Amelia." 

"That's good, how's the lip?" I take the cloth off and her mom looks at it. "It stopped bleeding so that's good. How about you guys stay here from now on?" We all nod in agreement and she heads into her room.

"That was an experience," I say.

"It sure was," Jackie says. "I'm thirsty, Rose can I have a water please?"

"Why have water when you can have orange soda?" Rose says and pulls out a little can of Fanta. "Do you guys want one?" 

I shake my head no and so does Amelia. Its roughly 4:30 pm and we don't know what to do. Rose suggests we go outside and sit on her porch, so we do so. We must have chatted for at least an hour before her brother comes outside to say dinner is here. 

"Great, I'm starving," I say and help Amelia up. 

"Hey look at that! They're touching hands!" Rose jokes and I glare at her. 

In the kitchen the wonderful smell of pizza invades my nostrils. I forgot how hungry I was all day. We each grab a piece or two and head into Rose's room. Rose hooks up her speaker and plays Today's Top Hits. I recognize the song and start humming to it. They all turn to look at me, and I ask why.

"This just doesn't seem like your type of music," Rose starts. "It's Blackbear."

"I'm full of surprises, clearly." I chuckle. We finish up our dinner and all sit on the bed in roughly a circle. I get up to get a bottle of water when I come back I hear them whispering. 

"Delia, truth or dare?" Amelia shoots at me.

"What?" I say clearly confused, I'm standing by the door. "Dare, I guess."

"I dare you to go on a date with me." 

I choke on my water. Rose walks up to me and its me on the back to get me to stop coughing. I look at Amelia with a dazed look. She just smirks at me and waits for my answer. 

"I guess I can." I finally answer. I'm in shock. Rose, Jackie, and Amelia jump up and cheer. They get me to join and I'm surprised Amelia can jump because her knee supposedly hurts. I just smile and jump along, because I got a date with Amelia.

"I love this song!" Jackie shouts and starts dancing and singing along. We all start dancing to this song and the few too. We dance until roughly 8 pm and decide to go get into our pajamas. I go into the bathroom to change into my shorts and shirt. I look into the mirror at my lip and see it's somewhat swollen but it'll go down eventually. I go back into Rose's room and wait for them to change. 

"Let's go watch some movies in the living room and set up our sleeping situations." Rose says. 

We grab our blankets and pillows and head out into the living room. Her brother is watching TV and Rose kicks him out for the night. Her mom comes into the room and asks what's going on. She tells her that we're gonna watch some movies and sleep out her. Her mom says okay and tells James to go to his room. He argues but eventually goes to his room.
