Smile Again

Chapter 27

~~~~~~~~~~~~~roughly a week later, 3 weeks of school left until summer vacation~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Delia, he's here!" My dad shouts from downstairs. 

"I'll be there soon!" I yell back. I look at myself one more time in my mirror before heading downstairs to meet Nathan for our date. I'm healing from my injuries pretty well and decided to look good for our date tonight, my first one in a while. I decided to wear a nice red checkered skirt that went halfway down my thighs and a white shirt with love in the upper right breast. I wear my hair down and head downstairs. My dad is talking to Nathan and going over the rules.

"I expect her back by 10, mister." My dad says sternly. 

"Yes, sir. Gosh, you look beautiful," He says towards me as I walk into the room. I walk over and put on my shoes and say good bye to my dad. It's around 6:30 pm and its still light out, a signal of summer on its way. Nathan picked out a restaurant to eat at and I picked the movie, since I was the one who signaled the date in the first place. 

"Ready?" He asks as he starts the car. 

"Yes,"

"I forgot to mention I have surprise for you after the movie." He tells me.

"What? God, you and your surprises." I chuckle and that makes him laugh. 

"I really like your outfit, Delia. I'm surprised you wore a skirt though, doesn't seem like you." 

"Thank you, I thought I should look nice. I like your outfit too." I smile at him. He's wearing a white button up dress shirt that makes his arms and shoulders look sexy, and a pair of black slack pants. 

"Thank you, I thought you would like it." He says as he pulls into my favorite restaurant. I didn't know he was taking me here, I feel too fancy coming here since its a buffet style. We get out of the car and get in line to get a booth and drinks. He rests his elbow on my shoulder as we wait, I learn he can be a bit inpatient at times. We get our drinks and set our order, it just being the buffet. We find a booth on the left side of the restaurant and go grab some food. 

"What time is the movie?" He asks as we sit down with our food. 

"It starts at 7:30, we have time." I reassure him. The waitress comes over and checks in with us and to ask if we need anything. "We're good," I tell her and she walks off. 

"I forgot how much I like this place," Nathan starts off talking. He starts talking about all the times he came here when he was a kid with his family, all the great memories. I smile and laugh at his stories about this place; he's great about this type of stuff. We finish eating and head into the bathroom to make sure I don't have anything on my face or teeth. I meet Nathan by the door of the restaurant and we head out to the movie theaters. We go in and get our tickets for the movie. He gets a drink cup and allows me to pick out the drink for both of us. I'm finishing up the drinks when I hear snickering coming from a back of boys by the bathrooms. Nathan heads over with our tickets and he notices I'm uncomfortable and shoots a glare over to those boys.

"It's okay, I got you." He puts a arm around me and we walk into the theater. 

We go all the way to the top of the theater, because lets be honest, its the best spot. We sit down and start watching every one come into the theater. Soon enough, the movie starts and we turn our focus on the screen in front of us. I lean my head onto Nathan's shoulder to be comfortable. He grabs my right hand with his left and holds onto it for the entire movie. The movie ends after a while and Nathan has to use the bathroom; I wait outside of it for him. The group of boys comes out of the theaters and see me and come over with the same thing I heard early.

"Got nice legs, I'd smash." One jokes. I role my eyes at him.

"I would love to see you role your eyes from something else." The second jokes.

"Oh and wait would that be?" Nathan asks as he comes out of the bathroom.  He has the look in his eyes that could kill them. "No, seriously, I want to know. Tell MY girlfriend and I."

"I-I mean..." The second one stammers and runs away with his other friends.

"Thank you," I breathe and hug him. 

"Anytime, let's go. I wanna show you the surprise." He grabs my hand and pulls me out the door into the car. He drives the car all the way to the beach, where a lot of people are. It's almost time for the sunset so a lot of people are getting out of their cars to take pictures. "C'mon." He jumps out of the car and grabs a blanket from the backseat. 

"I didn't know this was the surprise," I gasp and look at the lake. 

"I remember you telling me how much you like them so I thought you would like it..." He says shyly and lays the blanket down in the sand. The sun is slowly going down as more people start to arrive.

"Smile!" Nathan exclaims and holds out his phone for a picture. I smile and laugh at his goofiness. Whenever I'm around him, I can just be myself and its amazing. The sun is almost down when I grab his hands and pull him up to dance with me in the sunset light. We grab our hands together and swing them back and forth, he also spins me like a princess which makes my skirt twirl. He pulls me close and smiles at me in which I smile back. He makes me so happy. 

"Can I do something?" The sun is almost down as I say this.

"Sure? What?" He answers. 

I lean up and press his lips against mine. I seemed to have surprised him but he soon relaxes into the kiss; its the best feeling in the world. It seems as time has stopped and its just me and him. I pull back after and a few seconds and look at him. 

"Damn..." He gasps out and I giggle. "You're beautiful AND you can kiss good. I better not fuck this up."

"You won't, I like you too much." I kiss him on the cheek and we head back into the car. He drives me home a couple minutes before 10. 

"I had a lot of fun tonight, Nathan," I say and get ready to get out of the car. 

"So did I. I'll see you on Monday." He waves and I head into the house.

"How was the date?" My dad asks me as I go into my room. 

"Amazing." I answer.
