Love

Dad drove me to the hospital so I could visit Miguel. While he waited in the car, I saw Ms. Diaz leaving Miguel's room.

"Ava, hi!" She pulled me into a hug.

"Hey, Ms. Diaz. I just wanted to come by and talk to Miguel. Is he awake?"

"He's actually sleeping right now, but you're still more than welcome to see him."

"Oh, okay. Thank you." I smiled.

I went over to Miguel and sat on the side of the bed.

"Well, Miguel, our Sensei is now my legal guardian and we changed my last name is Lawrence. I was worried this wouldn't end up well. As in I would have to go back to my mom and... well you know."

I trailed off for a minute until something popped into my head. "Moon's party. After we kissed, you were gonna tell me something. We never talked about that. But, I think I know what you were gonna say and I wanna say the same thing."

I inhaled for a second, "I love you, Miguel."

"I wish I could tell you when you were awake, but it feels a lot easier while you're sleeping. I know you wouldn't know that I told you when you wake up, but it felt nice getting it off my chest. I gotta head back home, but I'll see you tomorrow when you leave the hospital." I kissed his forehead and got up to leave.

I was almost out the room when,
"I love you, too."

I turned back, seeing a happy wide awake Miguel.

"You heard everything I said?" I walked over.

"Yeah." He said almost as a whisper. He grabbed my hand, "Ava, when we first dated, I wanted to tell those words, but I just wasn't sure. That was... until the party. When I fell, you were the only one on my mind. Every moment of us flashed through my head and I thought it would've been too late to tell you. But I do. I love you."

Without hesitation, I kissed him. He kissed back almost immediately and we stayed like that for a few seconds until we had to pull away.

"What do you say, we give us another shot?" Miguel hopefully asked.

"I'd be glad to, Miguel." I smiled. "Um, I should go though. My dad's waiting for me."

"I'll see you tomorrow, Miss Lawrence." He chuckled.

I smiled and kissed him once more, "I love you, Miguel."

"I love you too, Ava."

I left the room, said goodbye to Ms. Diaz, and went back to the car.

"You seem happy." Dad put down his phone now looking at me.

"Miguel and I are giving the relationship another shot." I smile.

"Okay, well as long as you're happy, and he doesn't break your heart, again. I'm glad to see you smile."

"Thanks, Dad."

He chuckled, "Yeah, yeah, why don't we go out and get some food. Celebrate I guess." He drove us to the burger place he first took me and Miguel.
