Aoi's POV
Cleaning time. Every club meeting was cancelled just to clean up the whole school even though we already have a cleaning club. I wonder what got in to Minamoto-senpai's head to casually just include every single student in this job today.
Come to think of it... That guy's pretty insane for some thoughts.
"Aoi-chan!" I looked at the certain direction and saw Amane-kun walking towards me with a serious look. I raised an eyebrow, asking him telepathically on what's wrong. He shrugs a shoulder and placed a hand in mine.
"I saw Yashiro crying earlier. I don't know how to calm her down though, but—"
Before he could even finish his sentence, I immediately ran towards the place where she is supposed to do her task. Damn, who made her cry this time?! I bet it's those disgusting boys again.
I want to strangle those rats for hurting my dear Nene.
As I got by the back of the school, I heard a faint sob by the corner. "Nene-chan?" I called until I heard her reply. "Aoi?"
My feet automatically made its way to her spot. My eyes widen as my heart starts to shake in displeasure at the sight of her. I sat down beside her and pulled her in a warm hug.
"Nene-chan? What's wrong? Why are you crying?"
She sniffed before proceeding on answering the questions I bombarded her with. I can feel my blood boil so high at what she has responded. "I know I shouldn't be crying at this already, but I got rejected. I attempted on inviting a boy from the other class to meet me here during cleaning time but got rejected and got called daikon at the same time."
I knew it. Damn those pesky pests. How dare they reject AND hurt such a blessing from the heavens?! Why wouldn't they give her a chance? If I were them, I would have accepted her before she could even start off.
"Nene-chan..." I started. "It's okay. Calm down now. I'm here, you see?" Was that an invite that I just said? Oh my.
I heard her chuckle and my once angry face finally softens. "Thank you so much, Aoi... I know I'm foolish and not not as good as you, but really, I don't deserve such a friend like you." She said and I just tighten my hug.
No... I'm the one who don't deserve you...
After Nene-chan calmed down, we headed back inside the campus. Amane-kun apologized to her for failing on comforting her which isn't really necessary. Besides, I'm better than him when it comes to going on terms with Nene.
We continued on cleaning the room with the rest of our classmates until we were both left alone, as usual. It became our habit on being last to walk out of school. It was a random thing that we started at middle school but never stopped since then.
It sounds like what a couple should do, and it is very cute. We both get to see the aesthetically pleasing skies on our way home so it's like a win-win kind of situation. I know mom won't scold me.
"Nene-chan! Look! The flowers are blooming." I exclaimed, pointing at the flower that we have taken care of. Her ruby eyes sparkles at the sight of it, her cheeks having a hint of a faint blush which was very adorable.
"Take a picture! Take a picture!" I exclaimed and she takes out her phone, snapping multiple photos of our successful project. Yes, it was a project for our gardening club but the way on how successful it turned out, it was mesmerizing.
"I'll send it to you later, okay? Now let's get some smoothies!" She said and I just agreed. I reached out for my bag that is not that far from my reach and waited for Nene to finish up packing.
"Hmm, which shop should we go, though?" I grabbed her hands and dragged her with me after she closed her bag and finished off what she said. I sensed her being surprised but I just laughed it off. "I know a place! Just follow me!"
As we reached to our locker, we changed our indoor shoes to our usual ones before finally exiting the campus. I checked the time through my phone and I just sighed. Currently, it's already five in the afternoon.
Despite the time, the sky is filled with pink cotton like clouds. A time that is very catchy for a date.
Why am I thinking of that right now?
"Hey ladies."
Nene and I then looked up, only to see Akane-kun and Amane-kun in their casual clothes with food on their hands. "What are you guys doing here?" Nene asked them.
"We are just hanging out." Amane-kun replied. "We are with Lemon but he got lost so now we are searching for him. Poor guy, his ice cream melted so I ate them."
"You ate his icecream?! Yugi, I told you not to!"
"I was hungry, lol."
Akane-kun rubs both of his eyes with his fingers like he usually does when he is frustrated. "You have eaten three cups. THREE GODDAMN CUPS OF ICECREAM BEFORE WE LEFT." Amane just punches him playfully by his arm. "It's four cups now, by the way. It was mango flavored so I want to try it."
I decided to give Amane-kun a slight smack on the head in which surprised Nene-chan. Oopsies. "Aoi-chan?!" She exclaimed and I laughed it off.
"It's a family thing to smack them, right?" I excused. She opens her mouth and was about to rant when I took her hand and drags her with me, on our way to the shop I mentioned. Typical Nene-chan, ranting about those kind of things like it's my first time acting like that.
"Hope you guys find Lemon-kun!" She shouted as a farewell to our male friends.
As we stopped by the said shop, we ordered our snacks as we talk about whatever she is starting on. No matter what she blabbers, I find myself so invested to every of her words.
Nene-chan... You have no idea how much your voice and presence alone is enough to give me hope.
But I don't want to say it like that just yet... it's too fast.
