"You know why, Tom," Even as she said it, Taylor knew her words were nothing more or less than casuistry, for the truth was something else entirely. "I can't risk more publicity, especially with everything else going on."
"You know that doesn't matter to me." The anxiousness on his handsome features were quite visible, like he had endured a shotgun to the heart. She had no doubt his heart was beating to the rhythm of a warning siren. She had practically coaxed him into heaven and was leaving him there, stranded.
"It does to me, it's my life." Taylor said with a finality of a good-bye.
She stuffed the rest of the change in her pochette, carefully wiped her red lips with a tissue and gave him a last reassuring smile. As she walked out the bar, Taylor couldn't help but bask in the rush of adrenaline that swarmed through her. With a new found sense of freedom, she twisted the ignition key in her car, and made her long awaited getaway.
