The fake smile plastered to her lips isn't fake enough to hide the revolting taste of clamps and mushrooms. She takes a sip from the wine glass to cover her gags. Another fake chuckle, a few white lies, eyes on the candle-light shadows and half a chocolate mousse later, he has the decency to drop her at her apartment. Staying over is no question, they're both aware. Still, running away from him is proving to be a challenge, one she wasn't quite winning. A desperate wave of guilt overtakes her. I love him, she whispers; not sure who she is assuring, not sure why.
On the morrow, Adam and her chat on attending the Met Ball together. And like she anticipated, he politely declined; too many flashes, too many headlines, much more gossip and double the attention. Ofcourse. She wasn't new to the byproduct of her glamorous life. She didn't argue nor complain.
