"I can't do this!" I scream as my fists bang against the steering wheel. "Louis, I seriously can't." I turn to him to plead with my eyes.
"Yes, you can. I know you can." He says as he grabs the gear shift and puts the car in drive.
Louis has been adamant on me getting my permit before I graduate, he says it'll be important in emergencies for when he's not around, but I know that after all this time he might be finally getting tired of driving me everywhere. The past couple days I've been put in this same situation; Louis driving us to the gym parking lot before work, me freaking out about driving, and then us giving up and going inside. But he assured me that today I would at least drive the car more than a foot.
He's leaving tomorrow to their camp for the whole weekend, and then he's going back to his apartment since the holidays are over and school will be starting back up on Monday.
Cars are parked on both sides of our car and I'm placed in the middle of the road with about 100 feet of road in front of us before a turn. I keep my foot on the brake as the car switches to drive. "Put your hands at 10 and 2." He tells me and I do. "Lift your foot slightly off the brake." He says and as soon as I do what he says, we move about a foot from where we started before I slam my foot back down on the brake, making us both jolt forwards in our seats. "Dakota, stop!" He gets angry, but I can't help it.
"I'm sorry, I really am, but I just cannot do it." I groan, dropping my head on the top of the steering wheel.
"Do you trust me Dakota?" He asks and I respond with a nod and hum while keeping my head down. "So trust me when I say you can do it, and you're not going to hit anyone or anything. You just need to trust yourself." He tells me, sounding more like a caring brother now than a few seconds ago.
I know that I can't do this, but I have to try for Louis. "Okay." I mumble and raise my head up to look at the road.
"Okay. Once you're ready, slowly lift your foot. It'll be slow so don't freak out." He says and I nod.
I do exactly what he says, but this time I try to stay calm. My foot lifts and we start moving and I find myself not freaking out.
"Now you can press the accelerator a little, just a little." He tells me and I wait a couple more seconds before doing what he says.
I keep the wheel in front of me completely straight as I move my foot to the other pedal and touch it ever so slightly. Just as we start speeding up, a body comes walking in front of the car from behind a car on my left. I feel a bump on the car and hear a thud before I slam on the brakes, even though I wasn't going fast in the first place. I close my eyes and bring my hands to my eyelids.
"Da-" Louis starts yelling but stops, presumably from seeing the body in front of the car.
"Did I just hit someone?" I ask, shaking from fear. "You promised I wouldn't hit anyone, Louis." I say and I feel like I'm on the verge of tears.
"You barely hit him. He's fine, he can handle it." He says and it makes my face twist in confusion.
I peak through my fingers to see the one and only Harry, leaning over and holding his hip. I instantly close my fingers over my eyes again, cursing myself out at the fact that not only did I hit someone, I hit Harry.
Harry and I haven't spoken since our conversation about how us hooking up shouldn't have happened. The past couple days when I would come into the gym, he wouldn't make eye contact, even though he knew I was there. Even when I was talking to James during Harry's workout, he didn't look at me.
Louis' car door opens and then closes and once I finally bring myself to open my eyes, Louis' hand is on Harry's shoulder as he's hunched over.
"God." I mutter as I open my door. I must've really hurt him.
