In the eyes of a mortal, immortality is bliss.

Power is eternal. Youth is forever. On and on it goes, an endless cycle as the mortals live and die. Some die as martyrs to an unworthy cause to please us. Some plan to reach the heavens being evil and too ambitious for their own good. Ambition. That is the doom of every man on these planets. This is the rotten fruit that poisons other kind souls into doing the same.

There are those who are devoted. Those who live to serve others and are rewarded. They are the ones in eternal glory remembered by us. Their names forever hold a significance to us. We see every good deed and every sin, weigh it fair, and just as it should be. We are law and order in the heavens where peace is eternal. Where prosperity is eternal.

But even here, there is ambition. There are those who plot and scheme to overthrow the balance. Those who have delusional wishes to rule in my place. Because I am a woman and the gods want to see change. Who was it? Who was the one that poisoned me? Because I know it is poison. This isn’t some ‘passing condition’ that will get better. This is death in a drink that I loved with my entire soul, a drink proving so powerful, it is sapping my life away.

My attendants come to me with all types of remedies to heal me and none have worked. But I know it is death clinging onto me. Death is waiting for me, the Harbinger anxious for my soul. I’m this close to actually visiting him and to demand him to leave me alone, we had an agreement already. Goddess knows why they sent him to poison me. It had to be him… otherwise, who could it be?

Here in the heavens, there was the court of the Holy Six. It was our council of law and order. We have our angels protecting us if anything bad happens and they swore their loyalty to me. None of them would dare to defy the supreme goddess either. So, who could it have been?  Who could’ve concocted a poison this big, this powerful to eat away at my life force?

I ask my lady in waiting, Elena, for Leah to fetch Karidas. I’m sure as the royal librarian, he will know how to cure me. If he’s anything like his son, Magelion… then surely one of them will have found a solution to this. Minutes later, Karidas strides into my room and bows down as a courtesy. I quickly tell him to rise and he asks the attendants to leave.

“Karidas, my old friend. Please tell me somebody has found the traitor. I’d like to see them myself when that happens.”

“My dearest Alaia… I’m afraid the angel guard is still looking. Nothing has been found. Have you told your daughter yet?”

“No, but I suppose your son knows about this.”

“Magelion? He’s a smart one alright. But I planted a new question for him to explore. You do know that while he may be useful, he’s busier in getting your daughter’s attention,” he laughs out and I join him, two friends laughing at our past selves who had been just like them.

“I thought he already had her attention. They’re best friends after all,” I tell him before I enter a wheezing cough. Karidas runs to pat my back gently and I suck in a painful breath.

“It’s getting worse,” he says gravely and I nod.

“My immortality is fading away, Karidas. I need to get Maia to be my successor. You have the parchment paper?”

“Yes, but she will not take this lightly. I foresee a huge rift after this, Alaia. It is dangerous for her to assume this position.”

“Then Karidas, let that be my last favor for you. I am too far gone, but by the power vested in me, please keep her safe. You and Magelion are the ones I trust the most to keep Maia safe.”

“What will you do, Alaia?”

“I will not sit here, crippled by this poison. I will rise, keep fighting and find that traitor who dares to try to claim my throne,” I get up and start walking before I stagger and fall to my knees. Stars above, give me strength please.

“I will not go down quietly.”

Hii!!!

Welcome to When Stars Collide! Let's start off with a quick intro: Alaia is the current supreme goddess. She's Maia's mother. Karidas is the royal librarian who I have to say ahead of time... is hiding secrets. Who poisoned Alaia and what was their purpose? Now that Alaia is planning to leave the role to her successor Maia... how will she feel about this?
