Skylar was rooted to the ground as she smiled at Scampers.

“Scampers! It’s been forever! How is Ludven fitting your taste?”

“Not too bad, but Skylar, did you dress up to see me?” he says, wrapping her in a hug that made my blood boil. He passed a hand by her ass and slapped it, causing her to stiffen.

“Give me a second and we can talk down there,” she says with a frozen smile and he nods, Luz dragging him away and when Skylar closes the door, I feel her rage rolling in waves.

“Sky?”

“I will rip that man to shreds one day,” she seethes in a low growl and I shiver. One moment, we were baring ourselves to each other and now she was promising her next kill. I get up, momentarily forgetting the lack of clothes and I wrap her in my arms. She breathes in and out and she looks up at me.

“We need Scampers to give us answers about Evangeline. I think you should stay here, Ioannis. Not because I don’t want you to intervene, but because Scampers could hurt you,” she says and I kiss her deeply, making her forget all her plans.

I wouldn’t be kissing Leo, but I had Skylar, who had been clean and honest with her feelings. I knew in my heart that I shouldn’t fall for a mistress of death, but could you blame me? It was better to surrender to the fact that you’d die soon instead of fighting it. She could devour my soul if she wanted to, but she chose to love my soul instead. For that, I’d let her in and do whatever she pleased.

She traced another of my scars and I shivered against her, craving that illicit touch once more. It made me shiver, but I anticipated it’d get better. She looks at me and when she pushes me back to bed, I quickly pull her close to me and she sighs.

“Ioannis. I wish I could stay, but we need to help Maia,”

“Can’t I get one more moment with you?” I ask her instead and her eyes soften, almost to the point that they melt.

“I promise we will, but later.” She gets up and passes me my shirt. She quickly dresses up, changing her outfit to a dark red dress with a slit going up nearly to her thighs. She puts her hair up in a high ponytail and straps daggers in her legs and takes her scythe with her.

“Sky?” I ask her and she smiles at me.

“I’ll be fine,” she kisses me quickly and locks the door before I could go with her. I huff angrily, looking at the room and the reminder of what it represented. I had almost made love to her here. I had almost been devoured by a mistress of death and it didn’t scare me like it should. I’m starting to think Leo made me this way with the constant seeking of adrenaline.

Leo. Is he okay and was he able to save Maia? I could only hope since we didn’t know anything and it just felt like we were in a cat and mouse game that's never going to end. But Skylat forgets one thing.

I’m a thief and a thief never stops hunting. A thief never lets a lock stop them from spying and scheming. I look around the room for anything that could help me and when I find a hair pin, I quickly bend it and begin to play with the keyhole until the door opens. I look around the room, grab a cloak nearby and my arrows which Skylar had replenished on the way here and I tiptoed across the bar, looking for her.

After finding her, Scampers and a gang of burly men like him were surrounding her. She was dancing on a table and shimmying while putting a bored mask on her face. But I knew her gaze wanted to kill them all.

Why didn’t she? It was better than playing a charade to get what she wants. When the song ends, Scampers grabs her arm and helps her down. She glares at him and then she grabs a bottle of champagne and takes a swig of the drink, causing her to laugh. Goddess, Sky better not get drunk. If she does, they’d be able to take advantage of her drunkenness. She sits down with Scampers on a table and I move closer, climbing onto one of the railings to listen closer.
