It was almost 1 am when CJ decided that, since she couldn't sleep, she should see if Gus was okay. She knew she could just text Corinna or Tracy and ask, but she didn't want them to know she went back on her word.

CJ threw on a pair of joggers and a hoodie, grabbed her keys and practically ran out of the apartment. She didn't even play music during the drive to the hospital- her thoughts were loud enough. What if he doesn't make it? What if he does, but wants nothing to do with her? Or the baby?

"I should tell him about the baby." CJ sighed to herself. "Even if that's the only thing I tell him." She pulled up to the hospital and quickly made it to the front desk.

"Hi, um- what room is Gus in? Gustav Ahr?" CJ asked quietly.

The receptionist raised an eyebrow. "Ma'am, visiting hours are over."

CJ felt her face get hot. Of course visiting hours are over, it's past midnight.

"He's my husband." She lied. "I wasn't in town... I didn't find out until a few hours ago. Please?" She pleaded.

The woman behind the desk looked as if she didn't believe her, but gave her the room number anyway. CJ thanked her and looked for room 19. It was dark, only illuminated by a small table lamp.

"Gus?" She whispered, making her way to the hospital bed. A machine beeped softly in the background. She pulled up a chair, sitting next to the bed and taking the unconscious man's hand in her's.

"You're alive," She chucked dryly. "You fucking scared me."

Gus's eyes opened and then closed again. CJ held her breath, not knowing what to say.

"Layla..." Gus mumbled sleepily.

CJ's feeling of shock was instantly replaced with anger. She wanted to say something but it seemed as if Gus had already fallen back to sleep.

"You can go fuck yourself, Gustav Ahr." CJ pushed her chair back against the wall and left.
