"Can I just stand here and smell it?""Excuse me?"
"Please," CJ whined. "Do you know how hard it is to not smoke?"
Corinna rolled her eyes. "Secondhand smoke is just as bad as firsthand. Go inside and call your dads. I'll meet you up there in a sec."
CJ flipped her friend off before heading upstairs to call her fathers. "At least they'll be happy that I'm not smoking." She mumbled.
As soon as she got to her living room she took her phone out of her pocket, intending to call Joseph. She stopped in her tracks as soon as she saw the notification on her screen.
Gus: miss u
"What the fuck?" The blonde whispered to herself. The two haven't had contact in nearly a month since CJ visited him in the hospital. Almost 3 months before then. She sent a quick text to one of her dads, letting them know that the baby appointment that Corinna and herself just returned from went well. She snapped a picture of the ultrasound and sent that to her dad as well, then sat on her couch to wait for Corinna. She played with her hair anxiously.
"Gus texted me." CJ blurted the second she saw her door open. But, it wasn't Corinna who walked in.
"Gus-" CJ gasped. Gustav stepped in, as if things were back to normal.
"Hey." Gus smiled shyly.
CJ's arms instantly crossed over her belly. She never got the chance to tell Gus about their baby, and felt that now was not the time. She was glad that she decided to wear a baggy hoodie today; it helped hide her small, growing bump.
"Why are you here?"
"I missed you." Gus looked at CJ as if the answer was obvious. "I wanted to see you."
"I don't want to see you..." CJ stepped back.
Gus looked confused. "Why are you being like that?"
"I think you should leave. I'm sure Layla misses you."
"This is about Layla?" Gus laughed. "CJ, she doesn't mean anything. I don't want to be with her like I do with you..."
"Then why was she at your place the night you overdosed? Why were you calling out her name when you were at the hospital?"
Gus was silent for a moment. "You came to see me at the hospital?"
CJ rolled her eyes. "Goodbye, Elijah."
"Don't push me away right now." Gustav pleaded. "Please."
CJ didn't move as Gus came closer and wrapped his arms around her. She leaned her head against him, welcoming the embrace. The only thing that broke the moment was Gus suddenly pulling back, covering his bleeding nose.
"Shit," Gus mumbled. "Can I get a tissue?"
"Did you do blow before you got here?" CJ's eyes widened.
"Yeah, I-"
"Get out."
"Jo, listen,"
"Go away, Gus! Don't fucking talk to me until you're sober."
