Fake Prom. When I had recently joined Denver Hmong Alliance Church, the whole youth talked about a prom that they held. They called it Fake Prom!

This sounded like so much fun and all the boys were talking about who was going to ask them. That’s when I realized it was a Sadie Hawkins Prom.

That meant that girls were supposed to ask guys! What the chow, what girl could gather up the bravery to ask a boy?! It must take a lot of bravery, now that’s for sure.

It was right after church and everyone had changed because we were going to play some volleyball.

Oh, I learned that these guys and gals loved volleyball! Which was awesome, I could learn how to play volleyball. Too bad though because I always felt bad for missing a bump, so I tried staying out of it!

I liked counting, haha. But back to the story, we were all walking back from the park after playing a fun game of groundies. Yes, I am very bad at groundies unfortunately!

But it was so much fun, even if I was it for half the time! Everyone began walking back and Joshua waited for me as I went to go get my shoes.

We walked back talking about random things and I saw some pretty flowers hanging from a tree above us. I tried reaching one but unsuccessfully was not able to do so because of my height.

Joshua then reached up and plucked off the flowers, it was very kind of him. He handed them to me and smiled.

Oh that smile, it knocked the breath out of me!

Later on that day, as Joshua was driving me home, that Fake Prom was stuck in my head.

I tried convincing myself that we could go as friends and only friends. It looks like my mind won because the next words that came out of my mouth surprised even me.

“Joshua, can I ask you a question?” I was looking at my feet the whole time!

He smiled and said, “Yeah, go ahead!” I was still staring at my feet, trying to find the right words to ask him. I mean, did I ask upfront or did I smoothly go into the topic?

“I was wondering…you know, there is Fake Prom in about a month. Uhm. Yeah, if you’re not going with anyone already but uhm, will you go to Fake Prom with me Joshua?”

He laughed an awkward laugh and waited a bit. Why was he not answering my question?!

“Oh wait, you mean me?” He asked. Oh he had the nerve -_- HAHA, I wanted to just jump out of the car then.

My face was as red as a tomato and here he was joking! Totally contemplated on opening the door while the car was moving!

“No, the other Joshua in the car.” I said sarcastically while smiling to show that I wasn’t hurt but inside I felt a little insecure. And yes, the car was empty. I was still so embarrassed until he said,

“Well, I’d love to go with you.” Okay, now you can imagine my face. I was smiling as bright as the sun.

I looked out the window trying to keep my cool… but the blush crept upon my cheeks. I glanced at him from behind my hair and he was smiling. I was hoping that was a good thing! He then dropped my off at my dad’s house and waved goodbye.

June 1st, 2012.

I woke up with a smile on my face. Today was the day of Fake Prom, in which I would get to see my lovely Joshua all dressed up!

Wait a second; I was getting way to ahead of myself. He was not mine, not mine at all.

I went on with my casual routine; I took a shower and danced around to music. Dressed in my lazy clothes, I went on Facebook to see Joshua was still on his fishing trip so I headed upstairs for some breakfast.

Prayed and had myself a yummy bowl of Reece’s! I noticed that as you eat them, they formed little bee hives! Haha, it was kind of cool.

But after that, when my hair was all dry, I took it out of my gypsy hat. (When you wrap your hair in a towel and twist it) haha.

My sister got home from work and insisted to do my hair and makeup. I was not into that kind of thing, so thank you God because she was! I do have to say that now I kind of am because of her.

She was mad at me because I kept blinking when she was putting eyeliner and mascara on. HAHA, it was so funny but I tried to stop blinking as much.

She curled my hair all long and pretty and pinned up one side and added flowers. I must admit, it looked nice!

When I looked in the mirror though, I was so creepy. I was not used to having so much makeup piled on my face but it did look nice.

After that, my mother and Demi demanded that I put on my dress and heals so that they could take pictures. Of course, I listened to them or else they would have kept bothering me about it.

It felt nice to be all prettied up, but still never felt beautiful deep inside. Just my little insecurities but God has been helping me with that.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Joshua arrived late due to his sisters, but it was perfectly fine. As I opened the door, there he stood in his black tuxedo and white dress shirt and white tie.

Oh my, he was such a handsome fellow. I smiled at him and he smiled back at me.

“Haha, beware… my mother is going to take photos!” He laughed it off and joined me in the house. He looked around him and was observing every little thing.

“Hey mom, Joshua is here!”  I went into her bedroom and she was putting the battery into her camera.

“Oh goodie, let’s take a look at him!” She smiled warmly and used her kind voice. “So you’re Joshua, it’s nice to finally meet who Catalina hangs out with so much.”

“OKAY, let’s just get to pictures!” I blushed and continued blushing as we made it to the front yard and stood in front of the rose bushes. We took so many pictures, half of them were silly.

Joshua tied my beautiful corsage onto my wrist and it actually looked like a lotus! Oh, it was so very beautiful. I then pinned on his boutonniere and had a little trouble, but fortunately I got it on.

As we made our way to his car, he opened my door and said, “You look very beautiful.”

I blushed like crazy and smiled at him! What a gleaming smile it was, as he smiled back at me, I felt so very happy. I was falling for this man..
