chapter 8

Will stared at the ground waiting silently. his story was finished they knew the rest how he became a yard slave and his warmweed addiction. he didn't know which was worst.

Will felt movement off to one side but he continued to stare at the ground Halt was behind him he knew and he sighed knowing what he wanted. another look. he hauled his shirt up and over his head before he lost another shirt to halts saxe.

He felt a hessitant hand tracing his scares

"do you know what it is"

his mentors voice was soft instead of his usual gruff and cranky tone he used. will shook his head he raised his head and turned to face halt

"what is it"

"an oakleaf will its a giant oakleaf"

will stared at him in shock he had thought up a thousand things that it could have been but an oakleaf had never occured to him.

he turned back around and saw that gil had silent tears streaming down his face he stood and hauled his shirt back on. 

"Gilan its in the past what's done is done you can't change anything and it wasn't your fault"

"But it was mine"

he was startled by Crowley's voice. they all where.

"yours how the hell is it yours?"

will asked incredulously

"i prevented halt from leaving i let you take your oath and allowed you to enter the corps i sent you gil and Horace to celtica. its my fault if its anyone's"

 they were all silent as crowley let a few tears escape he had never even thought that his prevention to let halt leave would have resulted in this if he had left straight away none of this probably would have happened.

"no it isn't why can't any of yous get this why does everyone always have to put the blame on someone? there are such things as some things just happening you can't feel guilty about what is out of your control. everybody always needs to find someone to blame i'm sick of it yes its human nature but seriously no one could have stopped it besides borsa himself but that man only ever sees dollars and ways to make profit!"

will glared at his shocked friends after his outburst they realised he was right it was human nature to always find someone to blame for everything besides just moving on and trying to fix the solution themselves.

"Thankyou will"

halt spoke again and will looked at him uncomprehendingly 

"for what?"

"for trusting us. you opened your past back up i know how much that hurts"

there was a distant look in his eyes and will knew he was thinking of ferris and caitlyn his twin brother and younger sister. both passed on now. he had run from his past for over 20 years never having the courage to face it and reopen all the old wounds. will did and he was proud of him like a father to a son. he was proud!

will saw the glow of fatherly pride in halts eyes and realised he was fine he felt greater than ever without the constand need to hide his scars gone. he was with family he realised and this was his home among them!

instinctively he wrapped halt in a tight hug and surprisingly halt squeezed back he opened his eyes and pulled gil in aswell. 2 sons. 2 brothers. one father. halt smiled a genuine smile and pulled crowley in aswell much to his friends delight he wasn't sure whether to say 3 sons or maybe an uncle although halt thought crowley is a bitt of a mother to all the rangers:)
