Thirty years.
Wen Lan waited for thirty years to see Ju Xin again. When he was six, he was fully aware of his previous life and decided to be a general so that he could have the chance to search for Ju Xin across the kingdom. He waited and waited... until the day he heard his soldiers mentioning the name of Ju Xin.
"Tell me everything you know about him," he yelled with excitement, grabbing his soldier's collar. Seeing him, all soldiers took a step back with fear as they thought the general was somehow related with ghosts. He was super cold and scary, yet a wonderful soldier. Although he had long bangs, all of them knew that his eyes were ocean blue, but the king didn't mind it, thinking it would be nice to have a ghost in favor.
Wen Lan noticed their reaction, so he let go of the paled soldier and gestured to them to sit down. Then he 'kindly' requested him to tell him about Ju Xin.
According to an injured soldier, the Kingdom of Bei had a notorious general who gained the nickname Merciful Merciless. He was the true master of the sword, but he wasn't slaughtering randomly. He was just killing the talented soldiers or the generals while only injuring the common soldiers. As Merciful Merciless was fighting at the East front, all the soldiers were begging their generals to be positioned at a different front.
Wen Lan listened to the soldier with full attention and renewed anger. Apparently, this time the fate made them enemies as they must have been. Therefore, as soon as the soldier finished his words, he darted to find his commander.
One day later, with his two hundred soldiers, Wen Lan was on the road to the East front with growing anger and resentment towards Ju Xin. He would never acknowledge it, but he also missed the general and would like to see him again. No matter what, he was his first and probably the last love.
Although Wen Lan would love to see Ju Xin immediately, the reality of the battlefield didn't let him. Days after days, they were fighting with the enemy in the name of their kingdom.
Blood, wailings, corpses, clash of swords... every day was the same.
Wen Lan was fighting with all his strength, but his eyes were always looking for Ju Xin as the thread on his pinky kept shining.
Wen Lan drew off his sword from the dead soldier's body and spurred his horse forward. He was getting ready to attack another target when he heard a whoosh and he turned around immediately. Two swords clashed and Wen Lan saw Ju Xin's familiar face behind the swords. Four pairs of eyes met and...
Nothing!
In Ju Xin's light brown orbs, there was no sense of familiarity, just a general curiosity about Wen Lan's eye colour.
"You didn't recognise me, General?" he asked with resentment although he knew the answer.
As expected, Ju Xin looked confused for a second, but came around rather quickly. He attacked Wen Lan on his side, but the latter dodged it effortlessly. Overwhelmed with anger and disappointment, Wen Lan decided to treat him only as an enemy.
Thirty years of waiting was in vain...
How come he could know that not everyone remembered their past? As the House of Reincarnation was erased from his memory, he had no recollection of the Tea of Oblivion.
As a result, two enemies fought each other to death. Ju Xin's moves were elegant and well-calculated while Wen Lan fought with his accumulated emotions. Red covered his eyes, making his moves random and like the previous life, Wen Lan was the first to leave the mortal realm.
