The survival series: The Survival of Councillor Kenric

2 - Right after Kenric was caught

Fintan flipped Kenric over and sighed. "This would have been so easy if you had just done what you were supposed to do and died. But you are so. Freaking. Resistant." Kenric was about to scream, but before he could open his mouth, Fintan grabbed the councillor's hand in an iron grip and leapt away.

The rushing sensation of light should have been calming but Kenric was with the last person he wanted to be with and he was pretty sure all the bones in his hand were either bent, dislocated or broken. Fintan didn't ease his grip at all even when they reached their destination. At least, Kenric assumed the had reached their destination. Fintan had leaped them to a garden. A huge garden. With fallen buildings. And several feet in front of them was the tower they came out of. It wasn't a tower any more. It was just a glob of purple goo.

Suddenly, Fintan forced him to stand but never loosened his iron grip. He formed a ball of fire with his other hand and held it inches away from the ground. "If you move, speak, transmit, or do anything that will reveal our destination, I will destroy your little Eternalia with all your friends and family in it." Fintan rasped. Kenric obeyed and began looking around the garden. Suddenly he heard sobbing. A fragile voice. A voice he'd recognize anywhere. Oralie. "Do not speak if you want her to live." Fintan said as if he heard Kenric's thoughts. Kenric nodded but in his heart, he was crying. How could he watch Oralie sob over his own assumed death? He had to do something. But as he watched Fintan casually play catch with his ball of fire, he realized there was only one thing he could do. He could protect Oralie's and everybody else's lives by doing exactly what Fintan said. When it came to Oralie, he'd do anything. Even if it meant doing nothing.
