17th April 1996 ~ An Unexpected Gift
It was late in the evening and Jenna Griffin sat on the sofa in the dim living room, with a mug of hot cocoa in her hands while reading one of her favourite books of all time: The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien. Her husband, Archer Griffin, was busying himself in the kitchen, cooking up a mac 'n cheese dish for dinner. The heavenly smell of melted cheese wafted into the room, causing her hungry stomach to grumble.
"Dinner's ready!" A voice called out from the kitchen.
"And right on time, too," Jenna mumbled, grinning.
She set down her mug on the glass coffee table which stood a couple of feet away from the sofa, slipped a small black ribbon between the pages of her book, and set it down next to the empty mug.
"Coming!" She replied.
Walking into the kitchen, she found a steaming dish of tuna mac 'n cheese on the already set dining table, her husband was pouring her a glass of red wine.
"Well this is nice," She commented, smiling, "Happy anniversary to you!"
"Thank you, Jen, Happy anniversary to you too." He pulled out her chair, "Would you like to take a seat m'lady?"
"Yes, thank you, sir," She replied jokingly, before adding with a sly grin, "I hope this one's better than last time."
"Hey! It wasn't that bad!"
"Um, yeah it was, Arch!"
"Okay fine it was kinda bad"
"Try barf worthy..."
They laughed. The last time Archer had made this dish he had somehow ended up dumping a whole load of salt and flour into the pasta, which meant that it was practically inedible. After giving thanks, Jenna served herself some of the pasta and was surprised but glad to find that it tasted very good.
The couple were giant Tolkien fans and enjoyed talking about it together. Their friends always called them crazy but they did not really care. Today the conversation was centred on Aragorn and his multiple names.
