Future Letter

~

Third POV:

Elijah and Jessica have been spending more and more time together. They spend time in the park, at school, almost all free time, you would see them together. Jessica loved Elijah as her friend and Elijah thought the same. They brought each other immense comfort and support.

"Hey Elijah!" Jessica speaks through the phone.

"Hey Jessica! Why'd you call?"

"Are you free today? Wanna go somewhere?"

"Sure, I'm free. Where do you want to go?" He hears silence for a few seconds.

"Wanna come over?" Elijah didn't know what to say. Elijah has never been to her house before. He has never been to anyone's house before. He is a little nervous.

"S-sure. I'll come over in a few hours."

"K, see you later." The call ends and Elijah just stares at the wall.

He can't hide his excitement. It was the first time someone had invited him over.

"So...what should I do now?" He murmurs to himself. He proceeds to answer himself. "Change. Yes. I have to look acceptable."

He stumbles his way into his closet and scans through all his clothing.

"Oh my god! Why do all these clothes look so old fashioned." He groans. His clothes consist of clothes old people would wear. There were a bunch of vests in one corner; a ton of black, white, and grey sweaters were in the middle, and there were some loose pants on the other side. More flannels piled in the closet.

"How bout this." He pairs a light blue and white striped flannel and some loose pants.

"No. Too plain." He complains to himself. He goes through his whole closet, not satisfied with any of them.

"No, too colorful."

"No, too bright."

"No, too dark."

He stares at the huge pile of clothes stacked on his bed. It was higher than himself.

"What am I doing! It's not a date!" He sighs and grabs the blue and white flannel and loose pants.

"I guess this will do." He gets dressed and checks the time on his watch.

"Wow. It took me two whole hours? Time to get going then." He rolls his eyes at himself.

He shuffles through the neighborhood, going to the address Jessica had sent her. He stands right in front of the door, checking for the millionth time it was her house, and takes a deep breath. His hand reaches up to knock.

A few seconds later, the familiar girl comes into view.

"Hey Elijah! Come on in!" She moves to the side and he walks in.

"So....what do you want to do?" Jessica asks. Elijah takes off his shoes and shakes his head.

"I don't care. Anything you want."

"Hmmm...then lets do something very interesting!" She grabs his hand and runs to her room.

"Slow down!" Elijah screeches while being dragged. His old legs can't take it.

"Let's write a letter to our future self. Then years later we open it up and see what's written!" Elijah nods, liking the idea.

"Great idea! How bout we write one to ourselves and one to each other?"

"Okay!" She grabs paper and pencils and gives them to him.

Elijah stares at the paper. He has no idea what he is going to write. But when his hand reaches for the pencil, everything he wants to say just naturally comes.

Elijah's letter to his future self.

Hi Elijah. How have you been? I'm thinking about what I should write to you. And honestly, I don't know. All my life, I was left unaccompanied. That sense of support was never there for me. I hope that my future self would have gotten someone to be there for you. Jessica has been the best friend I could ever have. And truly, the moments with her were the best in my life. I hope that you have gotten rid of your curse, and are living a good and simple life. Life has always been difficult, but I know that through a storm, there will always be a rainbow at the end. Just wait. The time will come. Future self, I really don't know what I'm writing. I'm just writing whatever comes to my mind. Are you loved? Are you happy? I hope you are. I know that life in the future would be better than now. I hope I have made some friends by then. Support and love was something I always yearned for. I hope you have achieved in getting those. Even if there is just one friend. You only made one friend, that is fine. Just make the most out of it. Future Elijah, when you read this, you might think it is ridiculous. But this is what I'm thinking right now. I hope you are loved. This is so funny I'm writing to myself, but it doesn't feel like I'm writing to myself. Good luck! I hope I won't cry when reading this years later.

Elijah. Age 16.

Elijah looks up after he finished his first one to see how Jessica has been doing.

"You done?" Jessica shakes her head.

"Nope. Only finished the one for myself. You?"

"Same."

I grab another piece of paper to write my letter to Jessica. When we finished all of them, Jessica found a box and we put our letters inside. We also decided to add some objects that we wanted to put in. We closed the box tightly and added a lock on.

"What should the password be?" Jessica asks.

"Let's do 0316, the day we met." The lock is set, and then it is time to decide where to put it. We went around her house and finally decided on a large maple tree by her house.

"Let's put it here cause it's easy to remember." We started digging away the dirt until a large hole was formed, and we placed the box inside the hole. We finish off by covering it up with the dirt.

"There. Now whenever you want to read it, just come and read it."

"Kay."
