Ancient Book
~

Third POV:

Another day goes by and it was finally the day Elijah was looking forward to.

Typically every week on a day, an ancient book is always found. And that book gets it's very own shelf. On the designated day, people can go and get the book, and the first one to get it gets to keep it. It was an odd rule about the library, but it was the way it was.

It was something everyone looks forward to in their city. People all want to get something ancient. Some thought it was just cool to keep one, others were actually interested. Or they just wanted it. Either way, it was a popular day and everybody tried to fight to get the book.

Remembering it was the day, Elijah tried to speed walk so he could get the new weekly book. But his old and stiff legs prevent him from walking so fastly. By the time he gets to the door, he is breathing heavily, his hand reaches for a wall to support him as he catches his breath. He feels as if all the breath was knocked out of him.

The library is about to open, and everyone is fighting for the weekly book.

"Get out of my way!" Says a kid.

"No you!" Says another.

Elijah attempts to push his way to the door, but the kids were pushing each other around and he couldn't find a way up. He eventually gives up because he didn't want himself to fall apart and die in the crowd of kids. He prefers to not die and just wait where he is.

The door opens, and the library bell goes off. Kids and adults rush in and push around, trying to reach the book. Elijah gets pushed around by little kids. He follows the crowd towards the bookshelf. Then with much effort, he pushes the people in front, till he reaches the bookshelf. It was tough, considering other people were a lot stronger, but he managed to get to the shelf. Because most of them were kids, their height didn't help them one bit. His view goes up and he sees the ancient book. It was not very thick, and it had a brown cover that looked like leather.

With his stiff and wrinkly hand, he reaches towards it. Unlike the kids, he was able to reach closer than them but he wasn't able to grab it. He huffs and reaches harder using all his body strength, just hoping his arm would suddenly get longer and reach the book. But of course it wouldn't happen.

So he decided to try something risky. He lifts his leg and climbs one shelf of the bookshelf. He just hopes the bookshelf won't fall on him. And thankfully he was able to get it easily because of his tall height.

"I got it!" Elijah says excitedly.

The other kids all grumble and moans.

"That's not fair at all! He's just an old man, who probably can't even read!" One yells, frustrated because he still hasn't managed to get one of the weekly books. It was his tenth try, but still hasn't succeeded in getting it.

"Yeah! And I should be getting it cause I'm smart!" They start screaming because of how it wasn't fair. The librarian had to force the kids out of the library.

Elijah stays, and checks out the new ancient book.

"Your card please, sir." The librarian says.

Elijah fumbles around in his pocket, and takes out his silver library card.

"This book is an ancient book from 5000 years ago, it has a lot of ancient words, so you should examine it closely. It has a lot of pictures, too. So you can look at the pictures to read it." The librarian smiled, and handed over the book, proceeding to go back to her computer.

Elijah walks out, and flips through the book excitedly. But he decided to close it while he was walking home because he absolutely didn't want to crash into a pole and break his bones.

"YES!" Elijah cheers, his excitement shown all over his face.

He trudges back home, flipping through the book at a fast pace. The pictures showed a lot, and Elijah recognized a lot of the words. He had a hobby of learning and examining ancient texts, so he was able to understand a decent chunk of it.

"ETHAN!" Elijah shouts with his hoarse yet loud voice.

"I'm here." A voice comes from the living room.

"Look at what I got!" Elijah says, proceeding to lift the book up so Ethan can see.

"Hmm, a book? From the library?  It looks ancient." Ethan observes. Ethan was his older brother who looked younger than Elijah, who is his younger brother. They were very close because Ethan didn't want his brother to get hurt.

"Uh, well, it is a book from the library, but it's the WEEKLY book. The WEEKLY book. I got it!"

"Mhm yeah what wait THE WEEKLY-" Ethan started. His mouth went wide open, along with his eyes. He was also into these books just like Elijah.

"I can't believe I missed it! I completely forgot about it..." He exclaims. Ethan looked like his eyes were about to pop out.

"LUCKY." Ethan said.

"Want to read it together? I flipped through it, it looked pretty interesting. Ancient pictures, and ancient words, oh, and I think there was dirt on it, so it was taken out of the dirt, I think the ancient people buried it in the dirt, so exciting!" Elijah said cheerfully.

"You go read first, I've got some homework." Ethan said.

"Sure, when do you want to read?" Elijah asks.

"Hmmm, maybe later."

Elijah trudges upstairs, and walks to his bedroom. The room was really neat, the walls were a light shade of blue, and there was a window in the front. It was a small room with a bed on one side and the closet was on the other side. A desk was put directly in front of the window.
He walked to his desk, and opened the book.

Elijah started on the first page, and then to page 50, then to page 159. There were multiple ancient languages written and he could understand a word or two in the ones he hasn't read yet. However, he did understand one section in an ancient language he studied.

"Hmm, how peculiar..." Elijah said.

He could read the whole page, every word. And there was a man on it. The first picture of him showed him looking very very old. The second one, he looked younger. Then the last one, he looked like a teenager. Just like what is happening to Elijah himself. There were words underneath it.

Elijah translated the whole page.

It said:

In 5001 years from now, an old man born old will come.
He will have the power of all the power.
Fate chooses him.

Elijah's eyes widened, was the old man born old... Elijah himself? Probably not. He was just dreaming. How could he be in an ancient book?

Elijah was intrigued in that particular section so he went on reading.
