Chapter 10: Shops

Shops

Jessica's POV:

"I was asking if you wanted to go to the park." He asks. My mouth opens, ready to agree immediately, but then in the back of my head, I remember I already agreed to Jackson.

"Sorry, I'm hanging out with Jackson." I gave him an apologetic smile.

"Oh.. it's ok, if you want to go, it's uh, ok..." Elijah said, an unreadable expression covers his face.

"Maybe tomorrow." I said hurriedly.

"Maybe." He gives a forced smile, and it makes my heart hurt. Is he upset that I couldn't be with him? Why would he feel that?

We departed at the section, and I watched his sulking back walk farther and farther away. Why was he sulking?

I walk to my apartment and start finishing homework. Jackson had messaged me that he was going to come at 5:00. I didn't bother changing since it was just hanging out. After a few hours, Jackson arrived in front of my door.

Sitting in his car in silence, I looked out the window suddenly interested in the scenery I saw countless times.

"Which mall?" He asks after driving for a while.

I turned my attention to him and realized we didn't have a destination. "Maybe the orchid mall? It's pretty well known here." He nods and turns at the intersection.

"Do you know where it is?" I ask, wondering if he knew this city well.

"Yeah, been there once." I nod my head and turn my gaze back to the scenery.

After 20 minutes or so, we arrived at the Orchid Mall. It was gigantic, there were loads of shops that sold clothes, furniture, food, there was a theatre and bowling area and a lot more. There were a ton of people here today.

"Where do you want to go?" He asked, and I wanted to go buy some new clothes.

"Let's go to a clothes shop." We headed towards one, and entered the store.

"You can buy as well, I'll start looking." I tell him and he walks towards the men section. I walked towards the women's section and picked out clothes that stood out prettily. Grabbing one from here and there, my hands got full eventually. Going through the clothes, I eventually picked a pink jacket and some dresses and shirts.

Walking towards the cash register, I see Jackson already waiting in line.

"Held a spot here." He also had some clothes in his hand that varied from teenager clothes to old aged clothes. We waited in line for a little more until we reached the front.

"That will be $169 please." The man behind the register announced and I took out my wallet, ready to become broke but Jackson beat me to it.

"I'm treating you today, you don't need to pay." I open my mouth to argue with him but he puts his hand up, indicating that he isn't changing his mind.

"Fine, I'm paying the next one." He nods mindlessly. We proceed to the next shop and then to another.

Jackson also got me a few things. After hauling a ton of bags, hours have passed. We passed by a stand and Jackson told me to wait and he got me a smoothie. Arriving in another shop, he purchased a small cat plushie.

"I can't thank you enough for these gifts. At least let me pay something." I huff at him and he laughs.

"Fine. Wanna watch a movie?" He points towards the cinema and I nod.
