Memories

~

Third POV:

Elijah did ask about the location, but he completely forgot when he should meet the person. So he goes to the park every day, but has found no one.

Maybe he had passed the guy numerous times but he just didn't know. He hasn't talked to Jessica for over 2 weeks now. He doesn't know what is happening, and he doesn't want to go ask. He knows deep down that it is something Jessica is having trouble opening up so he is willing to wait. He wants them to calm down, and settle everything.

He goes to the park once again after college, and tries to find the person. He looks around constantly, analyzing the few people there to maybe find the person.

"Are you the guy?" He hears somebody talk. But he ignores it since he assumes it isn't directed towards him.

"You. Old man." Elijah turns around at the word 'old man'. He looks around, noticing there is barely anybody, and he was the only old man.

"Me?" He points to himself, and the stranger in front nods.

"Yes you. Come here." Elijah follows him.

"Are you Elijah?" The stranger asks, and he nods, confused why he knows his name.

"Now before you ask anything, I am not a stalker. Jessica told me about it." Elijah's heart pounds upon hearing the name.

"How can I make sure you are the person she was talking about? Elijah asks.

"We met 5 months ago. She said for you to meet me here. Clear now?" Elijah doesn't suspect anything further, knowing it was most likely the truth.

"Now, you're saying you forgot your memory?" The stranger asks.

"I don't really know. I feel like there is some memory of myself that I am not aware of." Elijah responds.

"Then we'll have to see."

They walk off the path and behind the bushes. It was a lot quieter here, although there wasn't much noise before. The stranger looks around and finds a large rock with a flat surface. He motions Elijah to sit in the center of a rock. Elijah does as follows, although he sort of struggles to bend his legs.

"Now just close your eyes, you should see nothing right now." Elijah relaxes there and closes his eyes. Then the stranger murmurs something that Elijah doesn't understand.

"What do you see now?" Elijah sees nothing but darkness. He was confused as to how this would lead him to his hidden memories.

"Nothing." He hears the person murmur a good.

The stranger doesn't say anything else, nothing but silence accompanies them. The quiet chirps of the bird, the gushes of wind blowing, and the sound of water flowing becomes more distinctive.

At first, nothing happened to Elijah, and he started growing impatient. But then slowly, Elijah feels his eyelids growing heavier as each second passes. He fights against it, and tries to keep conscious, but it doesn't work.

He feels his whole world growing black, as he enters the world of his past memories.

Elijah's POV:

"Elijah! Why are you still sleeping?! It's time!" I groan, flipping to the side, trying to ignore the voice.

"What do you want Jessie." He hears the voice again.

"We have to go to the ceremony! What do you mean what?" Oh yeah. Forgot about it.

"Coming." I tell her, and yet I don't move. There was a ceremony today to celebrate the king's new born child. I didn't really care, because it had nothing to do with me. There was no yelling directed towards me for the following minutes, but then she started screaming at me again.

"Elijah! I know you fell back asleep! Get up!!!!"

"Fine!" I give up with her persistence. With much effort, I get up, my body all stiff and cold. My hair was all messed up, going in all directions. I changed into my clothes and walked out to see my only friend standing outside with her hands crossed.

"Took you long enough." She rolled her eyes as she said that and we started walking to where the ceremony was held. While walking, I got many stares and disgusting comments, but I didn't care.

I was born with no power. Except for that I live my life backwards. It is as literal as it means. Years before, I was a man with white hair, wrinkles all over my face, and walked at a very slow pace. Now I am younger, brown hair with some white streaks. I grew younger. I don't know, maybe this was my power.

Jessie was my only friend, and she was the only one who approached me. Because she was the only one by my side, I fell in love. But who would love an old man? Nobody right? So these feelings are useless.

"Look! The king is here!" Someone shouts, and all of our attention falls on the man with the crown. I didn't pay much attention, it was not interesting to me. I looked around, everyone was here, so I figured they probably wouldn't notice if one person left.

I quickly looked up; the king was giving some speech that I didn't hear that clearing. I tapped Jessie on the shoulder, and she looked over. I point to the direction out of here, and she nods, coming over.

We lower down, my back hurting as I did so, and push through the crowd, making our way to the village. I don't think anybody saw us since it was so loud and crazy over there.

"Whew. That was boring." She says, and I feel myself rolling my eyes.

"Yeah, says the person who forced me to come."

"It's mandatory." She deapans.

"Yeah yeah. Where do you want to go?" I ask, and she takes my hand. I feel my heart thump rapidly against my chest.

"Come and follow me." We walk through the village, then into the outskirts of the kingdom. I see the forest coming into view. It was awfully quiet, although I do hear something that sounded like water in the background.

"I found a waterfall near here. We should be here by now." She murmurs to herself, while I take in my surroundings. The trees were all standing tall, a small path leading inwards into the forest. The leaves were all in different shades of green, there was no wind. The sun was shining brightly in the blue sky, clouds were floating. It was indeed a beautiful day to roam around the forest rather than listening to a boring speech.

"Ah! Here it is!" We push the bushes to the side, and see the tall and magnificent waterfall. The sound of the water rushing is distinct. There was a small lake at the bottom where the water collected. The water was extremely clear, you could see the pebbles and rocks at the bottom.

"Wow, how did you manage to find this place?!" I exclaim, and she laughs.

"I just found it."

"Well what should we do now?" I ask. She shakes her head.

"I dunno, just relax maybe." I nod, and proceed to lay down on the grass. I close my eyes, just the sound of the water splashing. It really is relaxing. I feel Jessie move around by my side and then she sighs.

"So nice to be here with you Elijah." I smile at that comment.

Maybe living my life backwards wasn't that bad afterall. Even if everyone is against you, at least there is that one person who stays by your side forever.

At least through this, I am not alone.
