Ch. 25

I was excited to get back to the hospital. I wanted to make Hayley mine, forever. Though I was not prepared for what would happen when I ask her.

Thirty minutes later:
I was sitting there in shock. Did she really just reject my proposal? What happened? "Hayley, I want to marry you."
"I don't want to marry you. I know you love me. I just don't think I can put you through all this. Plus, you will be working all the time."
My face was red. "Fuck work. Will is going to understand. He knows I will do my job. I am going to be there for you."
Hayley was quiet, then looked up at me. Her face stone cold. "I need you to leave. Don't make this any harder."
I gulped back every once of sadness and anger I had. I stood from my seat. I looked down at Hayley. "Just know, I am here if you need me."
I walked out of the room into the hospital. My mind going into a haze and every sound becoming too intense. "Eli, are you okay?"
I fell to my knees, Will trying to hold me up but I pushed him away. How could this be happening? How did I let her become so close to me? Was I not lovable?
All my thoughts went into overdrive until I finally passed out.

2 days later:
I woke up with bright lights hovering me. I squinted to try to get my eyes to adjust. "She's waking up." I heard mumbling.
I looked around seeing Will and Gabe. Then I saw my mother. What the hell is she doing here? I sat up in bed slowly with the help of Will and Gabe. My mother waiting to give me water.
Once I chugged the water, I could speak. "What happened?"
They all looked at one another but it was Will who talked. "Do you remember anything?"
I was thinking, rubbing my head. Flash backs of Hayley saying she wouldn't marry me came running through my already aching mind. "You mean Hayley."
Gabe sat on the side of the bed, rubbing my hand. "You passed out after."
"I was... I mean I am heartbroken. What do you think would happen?" I gritted through my teeth.
My mother chirped in. "Eli, you have been out for two days."
"What?" I was confused. "I know I'm heartbroken but it wouldn't have made me sleep for two days. I know I'm not a doctor but I also know my own self. I would have went out and got drugged up or drink."
Gabe gave Will a look. Will sighed heavily. "We know. But you passed out. The doctors have been testing everything."
"And? Stop beating around the bush." I gritted my teeth once more.
"From all the stress and past events, it has done damage to your body. Your heart is failing. The drugs you used to take caused a lot of damage."
I looked to my mother. She had tears in her eyes. "Can they do anything?"
"They can. But there would be complications."
I glanced over to Will. "Like?"
"You wouldn't make it or you would and have maybe a couple more years."
I laughed. "So I die or I die. Isn't that some shit." I started getting out of bed. I pulled out everything I was hooked up to. "I am leaving. If I don't have enough time left on this planet, might as well live it up."
I was getting dressed as all of them gawked at me. Then the door open and in walked the doctor. "Where are you going?"
I put on my jacket. "I am going to live since I have very little time left."
"You will not. You are to get back in bed. You need rest."
I smirked. "I'll rest when I'm dead lady."
My mother gasped. Will cleared his throat. "Eli, you need to listen to the doctor."
"Why? I am dying Will. Why the fuck would I want to stay here in this fucking hospital bed when I could be finding peace or some shit." My eyes were starting to tear up. Will came over, hugging me tight. I grabbed onto him. "I don't want to die. Was I so awful that this is the life that was chosen for me?"
Will rubbed my back. "No. Don't ever say that."
The doctor cleared her throat. "If you sit, we may can give more years than a couple Eli. But you have to be willing."
I looked at my family. "Call Ian. He needs to be here." I stood straight up. "Well doc, let's talk."
