Working sucked but the perk, getting to see Hayley. She was so innocent and sweet. She loved her goldfish and yogurt. I thought it was too cute. She had to have things the way she wanted or it was nothing. I got that, it was little things like that or having to drink from certain cups or she wouldn't touch it.
Today was like the same as the whole week, I walked Hayley to her office and stayed in there for a bit until I had to go to my cubicle. I always put a kiss on her forehead before I left. She didn't really like being touched. So, right now this is all I could do to show her affection.
I had learned through out the week that she had to have a inhaler on hand at all times. She and I quote said "her lungs were pieces of shit." Hayley also kept an epipen.
She didn't really want to tell me everything that was going on with her. But after falling out on me one morning. I told her to tell me everything or at least almost everything. I wanted to keep her safe. I wanted to protect her.
I was a bit late this morning. I had to help my mother before I came into work. When I walked to Hayley's office, the door was closed. I texted her last night and no answer. But I figured she had fell asleep on me. Though she never answered my good morning text either. I figured she was either behind or already working.
I picked up the pace to Ian's office. I didn't even knock, I just went in. "Is Hayley in today?"
He shrugged. "I have no clue. You could try the front desk."
"How could you not know? You spend every waking moment at this place most of the time." I was frustrated.
Ian stopped what he was doing. "You text her?"
"Last night and this morning."
"Go to her office?"
I gave him a "what the hell do you think" look. "My bad. You might want to check the front desk. Or her boss, if you are brave enough. She may be sick."
My eyes widen. "Sick? She gets sick. It's not just a freaking stay at home kind of day for her Ian. It's a hospital."
Ian sighed. "I am sorry. I didn't mean to upset you."
"It is fine. I'll give it two hours, if she doesn't text me back. I will see what's up."
"Why two hours?"
"Because she could have went into a meeting this morning and forgot to tell me."
"Or she could be sending you a message of backing off or not interested." I couldn't help myself. I punched him square in the face.
"She knows to tell me if she isn't feeling it. I have to go to my cubicle." I started to walk out the door. "Oh, Ian, I hope you don't get laid this weekend just for saying what you did."
"You didn't just go there." He was still holding his jaw.
"I did." I closed the door behind me and went to work.
I laid my phone out in hopes to see her name pop up on the screen. After an hour, my legs kept bouncing. When it was an hour and thirty minutes, my legs were bouncing and I was biting my nails. Two hours and nothing. Where the fuck was my pretty girl?
I got up and went straight to the front desk. "Hey, did Hayley Reevus call out of work today?"
Clint was security who worked at the desk, usually he got calls to relay to the big boss. "Says here that she did call work and she was sick."
My eyes widen. "Can I get an address?"
"You know I can't give information like that out Eli."
I sighed. "Clint, the girl I am in love with could be deathly sick, give me a fucking address. Please."
"Okay, okay. Give me a second." Clint looked up some information and wrote it down. He handed me the piece of paper.
"Thank you. I'm clocking out early. I have the stomach bug." I ran to my cubicle and then came back running out to my car.
I didn't know if she liked soup. But I got her stuff to stay hydrated, a new blanket, a plush animal, and gold fish. I followed the directions that I put into my GPS. It didn't seem that far away from work. Which I guess was good.
I got out and went to the door. I knocked. I waited for about five minutes when the door opened up. It was the older woman I saw with Hayley at the store.
I smiled. "Hey, I'm Eli. I'm here to see Hayley. I heard she was sick. I'm a friend from work."
The woman smiled. "Come in. Please take your shoes off first though."
"Yes ma'am"
I took my shoes off then followed her to a bedroom. The apartment was cute. Everything was just like Hayley. It was Hayley's own little club house.
"Hayley, you've got a friend here to see you." Her mom knocks on the door.
She opened the door for me. "Just go on in. She is probably just laying there."
I gave a shy smile. "Thank you."
When I stepped in, her mom was right. She was just laying there. Looking at the ceiling. Hayley noticed someone had came in. She sat up as quickly as she could.
I sat down the stuff I got her. "Woah, I don't think you should be doing that."
She grunted with a pout on her face. I ran my hand through her hair. "Pretty girl isn't feeling well. I am sorry."
Hayley looked like she could cry. I didn't care if I got sick. I placed a kiss on her forehead. She was burning up. It was crazy. I didn't think a human could get this hot.
I tried not to freak out. Instead I got up even though Hayley tugged on my shirt to sit back down. "Hold on. I need to get your presents."
I leaned over and grabbed the bag and handed it to her. "See what's inside."
She opened the bag and started pulling out stuff. Every time she pulled out water or Gatorade she smirked as much as she could. But when she got to the plush animal and blanket, she snuggled into them. I even made sure to spray some of my perfume on them. Then she got to the goldfish. Her eyes lit up.
One thing about it, the woman loved her goldfish. Even if she was sick. She cuddled up to the stuff I got her and I sat there rubbing her hair. Usually she hated being touched. But when sick, she was like a child, needing comfort. I was happy to oblige.
