I kept ignoring the phone calls and texts from my parents. I knew I had missed a couple of dinners. Especially since meeting Hayley. I just wanted my time with her. I didn't want anything getting in the way. It all scared me. I still needed to tell her my past. She had to meet my parents. I wish I could keep her from all of it. But I can't. It didn't work that way.
I was sitting in my comfy chair just looking at her. Fuck, I really had to do all this shit. "Hayley, we need to talk."
She looked up at me and smiled. She patted the seat beside her. I got up and came to sit by her. "I want you to meet my parents."
Her eyes got wide. I put my hands up. "If you don't want to, you don't have to."
She pondered it for a minute. Then shook her head yes. "Really?"
She shook it again. "Okay. I guess tonight then. I have skipped some dinners and I owe them one. They will love you."
She texted me.

They know you're gay right? -Hayley

I chuckled. "Yes. They have known since I was a teenager. Kind of happens when, never mind I will get to that part later. Remind me to tell you about my past at some point. Now go get dressed."
Her eyebrows furrowed then she nodded getting up. I sunk into the couch. That was easy. Though my parents were all good with me being gay. They hated my lifestyle choice. Meaning not taking their money. But with them, money came control. I didn't want to be controlled by them. My trust-fund was enough. I had lived off that for a couple of months. I really didn't need the job I have. Especially if I were working for my father.

. . .
The drive to my parents place to silent. I let Hayley pick the music. Letting her play it as loud as she wanted. She liked feeling the vibrations from the speakers. My speakers in my car were amazing. So, I don't blame her.
When I knew I was coming close to my parents house, I got nervous. My palms were sweating. I pulled up to the gate and Hayley gasped. Fuck. I hope this wasn't a bad idea.
I pressed the button. "The Hollow residence."
"Hey Benny, it's Eli. Can you let me in please?"
"Eli! Of course!" I heard the buzzer and the gates started opening.
I looked over at Hayley, she looked at me. I scratched my head. "My parents are kind of rich."
She blew the air out she was holding in. I parked and got out, going over to Hayley's door to open it. My phone dinged.

Why didn't you say your parents had money? -Hayley

I held out my hand. "Because usually when girls know I have money that's all they want. Also the fact that I am not rich. My parents are. It's a long story."
We walked inside and I took Hayley's coat. I shrugged mine off and put them in the coat box. "Shall we?"
I held out my arm for her to take. Before we could get to the den, my mother came downstairs. "There you are darling. Who is this lovely lady?"
"Mother." I kissed her cheek. "This is Hayley, my girlfriend."
She grabbed Hayley's hand, I tensed up. "Nice to meet you sweetie."
Hayley smiled. "Mother, she doesn't talk. She is deaf. So, I sign to her or we just figure it out."
"Oh, well that's no problem dear. I know some sign language. We are going to gather in the dinning room." I went to follow my mother with Hayley on my arm. I felt her pull me back.
I looked at her. "Is something wrong?"
She smiled. Her hand skimmed down my arm and held my hand. She squeezed it. I felt relief. I took her hand putting it up to my lips. I kissed it, making her blush.
I pulled her gently along to the dinning room. My father was sitting down. But once he saw me, he stood up. "Eli, nice to see you."
"Hello father." We shook hands.
He looked to Hayley. "Who is this?"
"My girlfriend Hayley. She is deaf. You can speak to her and she can read your lips. But signing can help too."
"I will do my best." He looked to Hayley and shook her hand. "Nice meeting you."
My mother spoke. "Shall we all sit down and eat? The food will be out in just a moment."
I helped Hayley sit and then I sat down. "So, how have you been Eli?"
"I've been great father." I knew he was asking if I need money.
"Eli, where did you meet Hayley?"
I looked at Hayley. "We met at work."
"Work? Where are you working?" My father sounded irritated.
I sighed. "A health insurance company."
"You know you don't have to work. If you'd only come work for me." Here it was. My father giving me the lecture.
My mother swooped in. "Dan, now is not the time. We haven't seen Eli in weeks. Plus, she has a guest."
I felt Hayley squeeze my hand again under the table. "Mom, it's fine."
"You see Jennifer. Eli says it is fine." My mother rolled her eyes.
"You should be working for me Eli." This was always one of the subjects on my father's list.
I sat back and threw my cloth napkin on the table. "If I wanted to work for the devil, I'd end my life."
"Eli!" My mother gasped.
My father just shook his head. "I am sorry mom. I know you don't like when I talk like that. But this dinner doesn't need to be about me. How about we get to know Hayley?"
My mother smiled brightly. "Yes. So, Hayley, what is your favorite thing to do outside of work?"
Hayley lit up and signed baking. I laughed. "This is true. She is a baking master. It's a wonder I'm not as big as my place."
Hayley signed again. "I enjoy giving back. I love to do a lot of things in home. I don't go out much because of me being deaf."
My mother signed. "You'll have to teach me how to bake. I'm awful."
My father cleared his throat and I looked at him. "While your mom and Hayley talk, come with me."
I nodded. I turned to Hayley kissing her forehead. "I'll be back. My father wants to talk."
I got up and Hayley grabbed my hand. She kissed my palm, making me go warm. I bent down and gave her a quick peck on the lips. Then I followed my father to his study.
He was seated behind his big desk with a glass of scotch. "Is she for real?"
"What do you mean?" I crossed my arms.
"Are you two serious?" He put down his glass.
I walked over to his bookcase. It had all my favorite books upon it. "Yes. We are living together. I take care of her."
"Off your trust fund, no doubt. What will happen when it runs out?"
I bit my the inside of my cheek. "It won't. Because I usually put money back in it when I use money. Every pay check I get, I put money back into it."
"You wouldn't have to do that if you just work for me." My fathers' hands went down on his desk, irritated.
I turned to look at him. "You know why I won't work for you nor take money from you."
"No, Eli, I'll never be able to understand."
I laughed. "Seriously, money is control with you. I had you controlling me ever since I was younger until I moved out. I'm not going back to that. Controlling how I dress, act, who to be with, and anything else. I thought mom was bad. But at least she accepts me for who I am. You've never been able to understand why I love who I love."
"It was never good for business. I couldn't have our family name ruined."
"Exactly. That's why I changed my name. I've never been good enough for you." I threw my arms up in the air.
My fathers face was red. "You're right. You have never been good enough for this family. You know the reputation we have to uphold. Get out!"
"Fine by me. I will leave and won't ever come back. You just keep being who you are father." I calmly walked out seeing my mother and Hayley.
My mother came up to me, putting her hands on my face. "I am so sorry. I will try to talk to him. You're my daughter, I won't ever let anything change that."
"It's fine mother. You do what you must." I kissed her cheek. "Come on Hayley, it's time to go home."
Hayley and I walked to the front door. I got our coats out and helped Hayley into hers. Then put mine on. I held out my hand, Hayley didn't hesitate, she took it quick. Squeezing it and bringing my hand to her lips, kissing the back of my hand.
The car ride home was silent. Hayley never once let go of my hand. I didn't want her to let go. I felt like that was the only thing holding me down to the ground. My angel.
