It was nice being home after a long New Year at Nick's and Hayley's parents' place. I loved being at both places but it being just Hayley and I; it was better. Ever since I finger fucked Hayley, when she looks at me, she blushes. Which I found made me want her more. But I couldn't. I knew she was sensitive and I had to take things slow. For her sake and mine.
I had woke up too warm from Hayley laying on top of me. I decided to hop in the shower and get ready for the day to start. I didn't have to be at my new job for Will until the fourth and today was only the second. I turned off the water and pulled on my boxer briefs and bra. That's when I heard coughing.
I rushed out to the bedroom to find Hayley on the floor coughing and holding her chest. She had a bit of blood running from her mouth. "Hayley, where is your medicine?"
She squeezed her eyes shut and opened them. "Kitchen."
I grabbed my phone and ran down to the kitchen. I got on the phone with her mom. "Sara, I'm taking Hayley to the hospital. I came out of the bathroom and she was coughing, holding her chest. She had blood coming from her mouth."
"Dear, slow down. Give her; her medicine. Wrap her up warmly and take her. We will meet you there."
"Yes ma'am." I hung up and bent down to Hayley. "Baby, take your medicine. As soon as I throw on joggers and a hoodie, we are going to the hospital."
She shook her head no. "Don't argue. I know this happens from time to time. But I'm not taking any chances."
I threw on my hoodie and vans. I grabbed her bag with all her info, my cell, wallet, keys and her. I carried her down the stairs and grabbed my blanket. I started the car before I ever got out to it. Thank god for technology. I wanted the car to be warm for Hayley. I put her in the car and buckled her up. I placed her little otter in her hands. Everything else went in the back. I got behind the wheel and I was off.
I called Will. "Eli, what's going on?"
"I'm taking Hayley to the hospital. Can you meet me there?" Hayley started coughing again.
"Yes. Gabe and I are on our way." I tried to keep control of all my thoughts. That's when Will broke through. "Eli, just breathe. It'll be okay. Get her there and let the doctors do the rest."
I took a deep breath and sighed. "Okay. I'll see you at the hospital."
I drove as fast as I could. Not caring if I passed a cop on the way there. I'd be able to afford a ticket. Hayley started coughing again. "We are almost there pretty girl."
She leaned her head over to look at me. "Hurts."
"It'll be okay. I'll make sure the doctors take great care of you." I took her hand and squeezed it lightly.
Once we got to the hospital, I drove the car to the Emergency part. I got out and got Hayley. I walked in and immediately nurses came over asking what was wrong. I honestly didn't know. I'm knew that Hayley had bad lungs and needed treatments from time to time and she had to have a lot of medicine every day. I was at a loss.
Then I heard behind me. "It's okay Eli, I'll talk to them." It was Chris, her dad.
He patted me on the shoulder has he walked with the doctor and they rolled Hayley away. I flinched when I felt another hand on my shoulder. This time is was Sara. "What's really wrong with her?"
"Let's get some coffee and talk Eli." She held onto my arm, making me move from my spot.
I didn't want to leave but I knew I needed answers.
We sat in the cafeteria, coffees in hand. Her mom giving me time to think. "How bad is it?"
"We don't really know. It slowly gets worse. Sometimes are worse than others."
I closed my eyes. "Is she going to die?"
"Not soon but one day. Her lungs are awful Eli. We have had so many test ran on her. The doctors still don't know what is wrong. She was born with this. She was also born almost deaf. She has had these problems since she was little."
I looked up at Sara. "I want to marry her."
Sara's eyes were in shock. "Eli, there is so much to bare with Hayley. Are you sure you want that responsibility?"
"More than sure. I would do anything for her. I'm in love with her. She is my life. I'll ask Chris for permission to marry her as well. She is all I want." I didn't break my gaze I held.
Sara genuinely smiled. "You have my blessing dear."
I nodded, then heard a familiar voice. "There you are."
I looked up to see Will and Gabe. I got up and latched onto Will. I let the tears come but didn't cry as hard as I wanted. Mostly because Sara was there. "Is she okay Eli?"
I let go and stepped back. "She will be. Will, Gabe, this is her mom Sara. Sara, this is Will my brother by choice and his husband Gabe."
Sara got up to hug them both. "Thank you for coming. I'm guessing you both know my daughter."
Will nodded. "Yes, we have met her a handful of times. I've never seen someone make Eli as happy as your daughter ma'am."
"Oh, please. Call me Sara." She smiled.
Will nodded. As time passed by Gabe and Sara became big pals. They talked about cooking and gardening. Which was also things Hayley loved to do. I stood there against the wall. Waiting for those doors to open to see the doctor come through.
Will stood beside me. "Eli, what is really going on?"
I bit my lip then sighed. "She's sick Will. Really sick. Her lungs are crap. I, we don't know if she has a year left or ten years left." I looked over at Will who was looking at me. "I'm going to lose the love of my life one day will. How the fuck do I get over that?"
Will's eyes were glossy. "I don't know Eli. But I do know you'll have plenty of people who care about you to lean on."
