THE NEXT DAY

"Alright class, good morning! I hope you're all doing well. Today we'll be starting a new project, and you will be doing it in partners!" Mrs. Bustier announces.

A few people look at each other happily. Alya turns back to look at us girls, raising her eyebrows.

"I'll be with Nino," Alya says confidently.

"I'll be with Adrikins, " Chloe announces.

"Um, what about me, Chloe? We're supposed to be best friends," Sabrina huffs, crossing her arms.

"Ugh, get over it already. I'm always with you," Chloe snarks back.

"I'm sure Adrien would much rather be with someone nice, like Marinette. What do you think, Adrien?" Alya says.

Adrien turns around to look at her and Marinette, visibly unsure of what do to.

"Um..."

"Actually, class, I'LL be choosing the partners today. It's time we mixed things up a little. It'll be good to work with someone you usually don't work with," Mrs. Bustier says kindly.

"What?!" Alya says, looking horrified.

Chloe's mouth hangs open. "You've GOT to be kidding me. This is ridiculous. Utterly - "

"Yeah yeah we know Chloe. Please Mrs. Bustier, I really..." Alya eyes Marinette. "-want to be with Nino."

"How sweet - young love! I'm sure you can be with him next time, Alya." Mrs. Bustier responds.

Alya sits back in her seat, clearly unamused. She looks back to us again, and everyone makes a disappointed face back at her.

"Alright, I've made a list here of who's partnering with who. Chloe will be with Kim, Sabrina with Mylene, Alya with Juleka, Marinette with Max..." She continues reading the rest of the pairs, until finally she reads the last one.

"- and finally, Adrien and Y/n."

Oh shoot. Sorry, Marinette.

Hey, at least I'm not with Lila.

"Alright, go ahead and get with your partners, and I'll start going over the project."

Once I head down and sit next to Adrien in Nino's old spot, Mrs. Bustier explains that we will need to come up with an idea that will help reduce climate change, and tells us that we will eventually present our idea to the whole class.
Me and Adrien start brainstorming some ideas for the rest of class.

Once the bell rings, Adrien stops me before I can get out the door.

"Hey, Y/n?"

I turn around. "Yeah?"

"So, since we're partners and everything... I guess we should get together sometime to work on the project," he says a bit shyly. 

"Oh yeah, that sounds good with me. We can do it after school today if you're free."

"Yeah, today works. The thing is, I'm not really allowed to hang out with people at my house. Do you mind if we do it at yours?" He looks almost embarrassed to say this.

"That's totally fine! We can walk to my house after school, it's not too far from here. Does that work?"  I say brightly.

His shoulders relax a bit. "Yes, that's perfect. Thank you."

"Of course! I'll meet you at the front entrance after school. See you then!" I say, waving him goodbye. He stands still as he waves bye back.

"Bye."
