"Me and Kristen? What do you mean?"
"Mick told me that you loved her and you were going to propose."
"But why? Why would you leave because of that?"
"Because I wanted to respect your relationship Linds. Working with you every day that closely and trying not to become attached to you was a fucking nightmare. It happened every damn time we would go on tour. I wouldn't talk to you for months at a time and then bam, on tour we would basically eye fuck each other every time we would perform together. Do you know how badly I wanted to walk over and rip your clothes off in front of thousands of people each night? I knew if I stayed I would do something I would regret, and I didn't want to put you or me in that situation."
"Stevie... you quit because of me. I- don't even know what to say. Why didn't you tell me?"
"Lindsey what was I supposed to say? I can't control myself around you so I'm going to quit the band?"
"I missed you Steves, the band missed you, everyone did. I mean when you left it was like you fell off the face of the Earth."
"All I wanted was for you to be happy. We had already fucked up so much of each other's lives, I figured the rest of yours would be better without me in it."
"Are you fucking crazy? My life was terrible without you in it. I thought about you every damn day, praying you didn't fall back into drugs. My heart would drop every time I would get a phone call from a number I didn't recognize because I thought it was someone calling to tell me you were dead." Lindsey fought back tears.
"God Linds, come here." She scooted closer to him on the couch and wrapped her arms around him.
"I thought about you too." Stevie said. "I thought about you and Kristen. The house you lived in. I wondered if you were married yet or if you had any kids running around. I wanted you to have everything I could never give you."
"Oh Steves." Lindsey said pulling her head into his chest. They were both crying.
"Lindsey." Stevie said sniffling. She gently pulled away from him. She reached inside the silk night gown she was wearing and took out the little white envelope.
Lindsey looked at her surprised.
"What is this?" He asked.
She handed him over the envelope.
"Read it yourself." She said.
He slowly and carefully removed the piece of paper from the envelope, unfolded it, and began to read it. As he scanned further down the page he smiled. He folded up the letter and sat it down on the coffee table.
"So?" Stevie said awaiting his response.
"Well I signed the contract, that means it's legally binding right? I suppose I kinda have to.." Lindsey said jokingly.
Stevie smiled and brought her lips up to his kissing them. She left her lips on his for a moment. It had been so long since she had felt his soft lips on her. Her body had ached to feel his lips once more.
