Sunghoon

We all sat around the table for dinner as stories was shared here and there.

"Jay? Can I speak with you later? It's important"

He look at me before nodding and going back to his food.

"By the way Jake, will you stay here for long?"

Jake just smiled before nodding.

I noticed, all this time of dinner Jake hasn't spoken a word AT ALL. I mean I thought at first that he's maybe shy or an introvert but the dinner is almost done, I spoke some words so as Jay and my parents but him. . . nothing.

He sat across me making me take a few glimpse of him. He looks fine to me, he looks normal. But he's quiet. He doesn't look sad if you ask me.

Mom offered to wash the dishes as Jay and I walk to the pool in our backyard.

"What's wrong? I didn't know what to do when you wore that hoodie and- -"

"I'm sorry Jay. I'm an idiot and I give you a headache. I'm really sorry. I promise I'll make it up to you - -  "

I tried to hold back my tears but they fell anyway.

"I'm sorry. I am trying now to be better .  .I did my exams . .  I am not late in class . . I . . .-"

I was stopped when he embraced me again as the tears fell on my face. Gosh I miss him so much and I'm an idiot for not realizing how he care for me earlier. I feel so bad how I treated him.

"It's so painful to see you like that Sunghoon and as your brother it hurts me even more when you shut me off. I feel like I failed and I feel like I'm slowly loosing you so I tried harder to cheer you up or at least make you feel loved but it's not working so I just got tired and Jake, he called me and ask me to take a break. . .so I flew there. I'm sorry if I hurt you in any way. . "

"I can't believe myself for being like that Jay. Thank you for not giving up to someone like me. . . I will try my best to make it up to you. . . and I also want to be happy again. . "

"So you are starting by not burying your happy memories in the den?"

"I know. . . I didn't realize how much happiness this sweater gives me and I think I'm making some progress"

"I'm proud of you . ."

We spoke for long and I can't deny how much I miss him speaking with me like this.

"By the way, Jake . . who exactly is he? I haven't met him before. Plus isn't dad an only child?"

"Dad is an only child, mom isn't."

"Oh so, he's your cousin from your mom's side. . how come?"

"Well mom has two sisters and a brother, I assume you know that. Their youngest sister is Jake's mom. Her husband died in a plane crash and Jake is all she had right now. Anyway, among all cousins, Jake is the one I'm closest with. We grew up in Australia together before I move here and met you."

"So. .  were not related?"

"Biologically? No but legally? Yes. You're mom's son legally so yeah..   wait you don't plan on hitting on him do you."

My eyes widen as I almost push him to the water.

"Goodness. . I'm just asking. Please .. I'm trying to heal here. .
Plus, why didn't you tell me about him? I mean . . "
