Happy Birthday, Shinobu!

The smell of incense surrounded a small area as the sun slowly peeked from it's resting place, blessing the fortunate parts with it's gentle light.

"Please continue to watch over me, Nee san..."

Shinobu had her hands clasped together as she had a "small talk" in front of her sister, Kanae Kocho's, grave.

It had been a whole year ever since her death at the hands of a demon in the upper ranks, and Shinobu has held her hatred for that specific demon ever since that day.

It was the 24th of February, at 5:00am in the morning. Shinobu had secured her position as the insect pillar, and has already went into multiple missions holding the title.

But today was a special day, it was the date of her birth. Something she would love to have spent with her beloved sister.

She could not help but stay in front of the grave longer as she pondered on how it could've been had she managed to get her away from the demon, whom Kanae pitied even if she, herself, was teethering on the edge of death at the moment.

Lost in her thoughts, she was unaware of the pair of hands that were threatening to block her vision, steps as quiet as a cat's, it wasn't soon until she suddenly lost her vision.

"Guess who~?"
A voice she knows very well came from behind her.

Shinobu gently grabbed the arms of the culprit responsible for her loss of vision and giggled.

"Oh, who could it be? I am at a complete loss."
The newly-appointed pillar played along with the joke.

The source of the voice gently pulled back Shinobu's head until she fell from her sitting position and hit her back on the culprit's chest.

She blinked twice before her vision adjusted, seeing a pair of E/C orbs looking just as mischievous as ever, and a smile she swore she wanted to punch, but at the same time, she liked to see. To her, it's a representation that everything's okay, even if for a moment.

"Ore dayo~(It's me~)"
The boy known as just "Y/N" smiled at her while he cushioned Shinobu's fall from earlier, leaving her unharmed, but in quite a position.

"Ara~ So it is you, I had thought it were a demon."
Shinobu teased with a gentle smile on her face.

"Now, that wounds me, Shinobu chan."
Said Y/N, the statement itself dripped with lies, though harmless ones.

"Times like this, you should still be asleep, what causes you to wake up so early?"
Asked the Insect Pillar, sitting up from her former position.

"You wouldn't really expect me to forget what today is, right?"
Answered the boy, arching a brow and also huffing.

"You..."
Shinobu started, but was interrupted.

"Sou!(Yup!) I remembered your birthday!"

"Did you come all the way here just to tell me that?"

"Of course not. What do you take me for?"

"A jerk."

"Fair enough.

Y/N grabbed a basket from behind him, it was quite enormous.

"I made breakfast, by the way~"
Said Y/N with glee, he looked so proud of himself.

Y/N stood up from his position and carefully set up a mat, Shinobu offered to help, but he really wouldn't let her, so she just watched him do it. Soon, he set up the container for the rice, the eggs, the miso soup, and sliced apples.
