Chapter 19: what's she doing here?

Shuichi's POV

Kokichi, Kyoko, Makoto and I stood in front of a building. I was not looking forward to this. I'm terrified of the ocean. I didn't even know why I was doing this. I guess I just didn't want Kokichi to know I'm scared of something like the ocean. More specifically I'm scared of sharks... and that's what we were just about to do. Go swimming with sharks.

We were going to be in a cage but god I was terrified. I wouldn't say I have thalassophobia or anything and I can handle things like snorkeling... just not sharks, anything but sharks.
"Come on let's go let's go!" Kokichi grabbed my hand and ran into the building.

I felt myself being lowered into the oddly warm water with cage bars surrounding me. I wasn't alone, Kokichi was with me. He looked so excited. I can't imagine not being scared of this. Although I guess, the fact that this activity even exists means someone enjoys it. It wasn't long before I saw sharks around us. Kokichi went up close to the bars and despite being told not to he reached his hand out and pet a shark.

Kokichi looked at me with an "awe are you scared?" Kinda look. I looked at him back and shook my head. Swimming over to the edge of the cage I saw a shark swim past fairly close to us. I could see him smile at me and laugh at me. He grabbed my hand and held it out of the cage for a bit. A shark went by us really closely and brushed against my hand.

I pulled my hand back and swam back to the middle of the cage. He laughed at me again and swam over to me. Soon after the cage started going back up. Finally it was over.

I walked out of that building as fast as I could. Kokichi laughed a little again.
"Shumai was scareddddd." He jumped up and pat my head.
"A- a little." I looked away.
"That's cute." He smiled.
"You're cute." I rolled my eyes.
"Pshhhh cheesy Shumai, very cheesy. But thanks."

I put my arm around him and could hear a tiny laugh in the background that sounded a heck of a lot like Kyoko.

The rest of the day went well, I got the autographs from Ibuki's band that I wanted too. In fact the rest of the trip all went well. That is until we got off the boat back where we started. Kyoko and Makoto walked off with us. Kyoko wanted to keep in touch so she put my phone number in her phone. A car sat next to mine that looked awfully familiar.

Kokichi ran off in front of me like a child trying to get to the destination before their parents. I saw him get approached by a person, I knew exactly who it was, even from this far away. She looked so happy, why was she here? Kokichi shook her hand, this was going to be uncomfortable.

As I got closer to the car she ran to me and almost knocked me down with a hug. It was the girl I left alone at the alter. Kokichi look at me with a confused kinda look as she proceeded to wrap her arms around my neck and kiss every part of my face she could. I was in far too much shock to tell her to stop, I never expected to see her here.

I finally pushed her off of me and questioned what she was doing. "I told you I needed time." I looked to Kokichi, I'm not sure he understood what was going on.
"I wanted to come meet you! I offered to bring the nice inventor lady with since she wanted to see the tiny guy but she said she had something more important to do." She smiled.

"Hey, I have a name!" Kokichi pouted as he walked over to us, "are you supposed to be bride?"
"I am," she smiled even brighter, "hopefully I still can be."
"Listen..." I trailed off, I didn't know what to say to her.
"I'm listening." She looked to me worried.
"I am too!" Kokichi looked a little angry.

"I don't think this is going to work out." I looked at my feet.
"Perfect!" She pushed Kokichi's face away and hugged me tightly.
"I meant with you." I looked away, hoping she would understand. I felt a smaller pair of arms reach around and hug me from behind.

I wondered what was so hard for her to understand as she hugged me tighter. She always seemed to think she deserved the world, I thought that personality type worked fine with me as I could try my best to deliver but she just seemed desperate now.

"Sonia..." I looked down to her and pat her blonde hair, "I meant with you."

I heard her sniffle a little and look up, "I know, just give me a little bit longer... please." I felt my keys leave my pocket as I felt Kokichi's arms leave my waist. He skipped off and started bringing our bags into my car. I felt kinda bad as I felt my shirt start getting wet. We were expecting rain today but it hadn't started yet, this was from her. She pulled away from me and brushed off my shirt.

"It's ok, I understand, really I do." She smiled as she whipped her tears.
"I'm sorry."
"It's fine Shuichi. I hope he makes you happy."
"How'd you know-" I started asking.
"I felt him hug year earlier, I can just tell. You're a bit easy to read Shuichi Saihara."
"You know me well Sonia Nevermind." I laughed.
"Well, I should go." She looked off to the side.

I looked up to the sky as I felt some rain drops starting to fall. The pace of the rain picked up quickly.
"Yeah, I should too." I looked back to her. She went in for one last hug and quickly ran to her car to avoid getting wet.
"I hope I'll get to see you again someday." She waved.
"One day." I waved back.

I just stood in the rain for a bit, taking in whatever the hell just happened. I heard some skipping in some already forming puddles. I looked down to my feet as the rain hit the black top parking lot around me.
"You ok Shu?" A tiny face peeked out under me.
"Huh- yeah, I'm fine... sorry."
"A little spacey I see." He smiled.

I moved without thinking as I pulled him towards me into a tight hug.
"Woah, I need to breath Saihara-Chan." He giggled softly. I loosened a little but not much. He hugged me back and nuzzled his head under my chin.

He looked up to me and pulled my face in for kiss. What a cliche way to end a trip like this. Kissing in the rain. It was almost comical to me. He pulled away and looked into my eyes.
"I love you too Shuichi." He said as though he knew I wanted to let him know I really did.
"I love you Kokichi."

He grabbed my hand and ran off to the car, quickly jumping into the passenger seat. We were both soaking wet, consequently making the car wet as well.
"Well, now what?" I questioned.
"You ready for a long drive?"
"Sure."
"Great! Go here." He picked up my phone and put an address in my GPS several hours away. This is going to be a while.

This is as far as I've written! Let me know if you want me to continue or if you think this is a fitting end. I could try to write a second book as a continuation to this but I've been working on another story instead. This story will end here but I'm more than happy to write a sequel if you guys want it, I have plenary of ideas :)) thanks for reading!

I know I just uploaded the last part like 2 days ago but this has been finished for over a month now and I want to move on to my next story I've been writing as I already have over 23,000 words of a completely unpublished story. At this point though I have uploaded the first part, it's called Partners and is another Saiouma fic. Feel free to go check that out on my profile as well if you want :))) ok now I'm done! Byeeeeee
