Chapter 4: 20 questions

Kokichi's POV

Huh? Where am I? Did I die? Did I get kidnapped? Oh! There's a note!

Sorry I know it's weird to be put in an unknown room alone but I wanted to go get us some food. I'll be back soon, Shuichi! :)

Huh, weird. Guess I wasn't kidnapped. Guess I didn't die either. So this is real? I actually somehow convinced Shuichi to ditch his wedding and run away with me? I feel terrible. How could I do that?! Food sounds good though, I'm hungry. I wonder where my phone is? I bet Miu is freaking out right now. I should've texted her and let her know I was doing to leave. Although that kinda ruins the fun of running away doesn't it.

I wonder what Shuichi wants to do. Does he have a plan? Or are we just kinda of winging it. I looked around the small room I was in, seemed to have all the essential items, a bathroom, a bed, a table, and for some reason a TV. I grabbed the remote and turned it on. I haven't watched TV in a long time. I don't even know what channels I like anymore.

The news was on the TV when it turned on. Just normal boring news things. They were talking about a new cruise trip that was going on a couple hours from here. Tickets were being sold at the loading docks. Sounded fun. I hope I can go on one of those some day.

There was a window close to the door. The curtains covered the windows and made the room dark. I got up to go open them just to see that it was already dark outside.

I saw a car pull up that looked like Shuichi. I started to feel butterflies again. This was all so weird, who does this?! Who likes someone after years of not seeing them and then runs away with them?! Shuichi even acts a different than he used to and yet I'm still fascinated by him. I don't feel like I should be allowed to be here. I have no right to be here. I don't deserve to get to see Shuichi again let alone steal him from his special day.

Soon enough he opened the door.
"You're awake!" He smiled.
"Mhm, where are we?"
"We're around 3 hours away from the hotel. Oh here, you forgot this in the car." Shuichi handed me my phone.
"Thanks. I smell food, what'd you get?"
"I wasn't sure what you would want so I went with the safe option and just got pizza."
"Ooo sounds good to me!"

Shuichi set the food onto table and went to go wash his hands.
"I feel like we don't really know each other, can I ask you some questions?" Shuichi sat down and looked at me.
"Sure! But I get to ask you questions too then!" I smiled wildly.
"Hmm let's start easy, what's your astrological sign?"
"Gemini! How about you?"
"Virgo."
"Ohhh right your birthday is September... 7th right?" I didn't want to see creepy for remembering it right away.
"Yeah. Uh... sorry... I don't remember yours."
"That's fine!" Part of me was a little hurt but there was no reason for him to remember my birthday. "It's June 21st."

"Ok, next question. Why do you live with Miu?"
"Woah what a jump in seriousness, we live together because we don't want to be alone. Neither of us are dating anyone and we get along well now so we live together to avoid being alone."
"So you and Miu aren't dating?"
"No no no, I like someone else."
"Oh, can I ask who?"
"I'll let you figure that out yourself mr detective." I winked at him. "Ok my turn! How'd you meet your girlfriend?"

"Oh, we met when I first started at my detective job. She's a few years older than me but she's super sweet. I've been feeling a bit trapped though for a while, I guess you coming to the wedding saved me from not being ready. I like her but I don't know if I want to marry her. To be completely honest I think I might like someone else to." He scratched the back of his neck.
"Oh... your turn."

"Right right, hmmm, why'd you give me your hand earlier if you didn't want to actually run away?"
"I didn't think you'd actually say yes, I guess you're less predictable after so long."
"Maybe, your turn." He responded.

"Who do you think you might like other than your girlfriend?"
"Ah- I can't have that kind of information getting out, ask a different question."
"Oh- ok hmm," I pondered on what to ask for a bit but I can't help but wonder why he won't tell me. "Any big dreams?"
"Do you mean things I want to accomplish or things I see when I fall asleep?"
"Things you want to accomplish." I laughed.
"Well I want to travel more, kinda like Rantaro does. I see him all over the world on Instagram."

"No way! Me too actually. I would love to travel but I haven't found a person I want to go with me." I know I would love to go with Shuichi but I can't think of anyone else I would really want to travel with. Of course I would never ask Shuichi to do that with me, we're just trying to re-get to know each other.
"Oh nice! Can I ask my question now?" Shuichi asked as though he was genuinely asking permission.
"Yeah of course go ahead."

"Would you want to go traveling with me?"

That's the question isn't it. Shuichi Saihara asking me if I wanted to travel with him? Of course I'd love to but I'm not sure my butterfly filled stomach could take that. There's far too much tension with us already and we have been together for only a little over 5 hours, give it take.

"Shu- Saihara! Me? But we barely even know each other! Don't you think this is more something you should be doing with you girlfriend or supposed to be wife?!"
"Well I saw there was a cruise trip around here, we could try that."
"Shuichi! Are you even listening to me? I don't think you should be inviting an acquaintance from high school to travel the world with you!"
"Why not?"
"Wha- why not? What do you mean 'why not'?!"
"What if I want to invite you? You have a sense of adventure to you and you already want to go traveling anyways. I wasn't exactly sure at first if it was the best idea but you said you and Miu aren't dating anyways-"

This man is crazy. Time does weird things to people. He can't be serious right?! I mean he was serious about leaving the wedding, maybe he's serious about this too.
"I don't even have my money on me." I crossed my arms.
"That's ok, I have mine." Shuichi plopped his wallet onto the table.

"I'm not going to let you pay for me, not to mention we only have one pair of clothes and we're both already wearing them."
"I make a lot of money Ouma, enough to pay for a new pair of clothes."
"Ok and? I make more than enough money too, as well, doesn't mean I want to leave my fiancé alone at the alter and run away with a guy I haven't seen since high school and go start some new life by traveling around the world with him!"

"I don't know, sounds like fun." He smiled softly. His smile was really cute. The way his eyes closes slightly with his smile made him even cuter. God it's so hard to fight with him.
"You're insane, I never thought that I would be the voice of reason between us." I smiled back.
"In around a week, the plane me and my girlfriend were taking leaves for our honeymoon if you would like to go instead."

"Honeymoon- we can talk about that later. I'm tired again, I'm gonna go to bed." I looked at the bed and thought to myself. "I'll sleep on the floor, you can have the bed."
"You can have the bed, I'll sleep on the floor, or in my car. Unless you want to share the bed."

Share the bed? I- was this man trying to make me scream? Sharing a bed with a high school crush. No way- nu huh, not happening-

Before I knew it I was in the bed with Shuichi's back facing mine. How did I get to this point? How did my life get here? I'm sleeping in a bed with Shuichi Saihara six years after we graduated high school and got out of the game with the invitation to travel the world with him. I broke up his fucking wedding. Things wouldn't be like this if I had just stayed home. God Miu is probably freaking out just as much as I am, I should talk to her. I started eating right after Shuichi got here, I didn't even open my phone. I hope Miu is doing ok.
