Hi, welcome to Secrets and Lies. Thank you so much for choosing to read this story, I vastly appreciate it. I wrote this book in seventh grade so it isn't perfect but if you love Dylan O'Brien, I think you might like this fan fiction too :)
*****
I can't remember anything, is what I think to myself as I sit at a desk in my Algebra exam. It's my last class before the end of the day and it's a friday, thank god for that. I was invited to Max Elliots big party tonight but truth is, I kind of just want to curl up in a ball on the couch and watch Spongebob with my two boyfriends Ben and Jerry.
I find myself staring out the class window and notice that the grass on the football field is longer then it's been the entire summer and it reminds me of when I was younger and my Dad used to take me out to a farm in California and the entire time I would just complain about the long and itchy grass.
I look around the room and see anxious students, writting down different numbers and letters on their page. Their pages are filled with the greyish colour of their pencils and you can barley see the light tone of white that is actually the paper. I look down at my paper and realise I don't have a single thing written down on it except my name, Ava Styles. I try hard to focus on the equations in front of me but in all honeslty I just can't manage to process them in my head.
I look up at the clock which reads "3:15." School finishes at 3:30 so I really need to start writting some answers, even if they're completley wrong. I scribble down some answers and constantly tell myself in my head not to look up at the clock because it inevitably only makes time seem longer. I get to the end of the exam papers and notice I have written an answer for every question...I'm so going to fail this.
I decide I should at least write the date at the top of my page too. Tuesday March the 12th. My hand is slightly trembling so it makes my wrtting seem unsteady and looks as if I used my opposite writting hand, which is right (yes I am a left hander.) I sigh softly at my paper and then hear the loud roaring sound of the school bell. Everyone around me picks up their bags and flings them on their backs. Some place their bags on one of their shoulders, while others have it on both.
I place my pencils in my bag and zip it all the way up and throw it on both of my shoulders. I take my paper and place it gently on my teachers desk and run out the door only to collide with someone fairly tall and familliar. I look up to see the one and only Dylan O'Brien standing in front of me.
"Hey watch it Ava!" Dylan yells. "Why do you always have to be so clumsy?" He asks with a frustrated sigh.
"I'll stop being so clumsy when you stop being such a jerk!" I retort with a smirk on my face.
"Hey Guys! Can you just stop fighting for one second?" Asks Crystal, standing in between Dylan and I.
Crystal always looks beautiful. She has long, wavy, dark brown hair that is always silky and sits perfectly behind her shoulders. Her skin is pale, yet still beautiful and her cheek bones are high and make her face stand out even more. Chrystal is perfect and I always wished I could be that pretty.
"Hi Guys. Whose going to Max's wild party tonight?" Tyler asks as he walks over to us, standing at the edge of the corridor. I look down at my hands and fumble around with my fingers. "Ava?" Tyler prompts and I snap back into reality.
"Uh yeah...um I don't think I want to go. I have to study and I'm pretty sure I completley failed my Algebra exam." I say looking into Tposey's glass like brown eyes.
"Ok that is such a lie!" Says Holland now joining into the conversation.
"Um no it's true." I agrue and she just twirls her strawberry blonde hair and bites the corner of her lip.
"You're lying. I think you don't want to go because of something you're not telling us. I also know you're not going to tell us so tonight all five of us are going to hang out at your house. Everyone cool with that?" Holland asks with her sweet yet evil voice. Something I always have admired about Holland is the way she can take control and never let anyone walk over her. She's brave and bold and gee do I wish I was too.
"See you at 7." Holland says and she walks away with a smug smile on her face.
I walk over to the front doors to go home, not bothering to say goodbye to anyone. I just hop in my Jeep and drive away.
There goes my plans to be alone tonight.
