Secrets and Lies (Dylan O'Brien fan fic)

Part 12

I wake up to the sound of nothing but the quiet sounds of chirping birds. The sun is shining evenly through the small gaps through my blinds, warming the room perfectly. It's already such a beautiful day...Until it hits me. It's Monday, I'm late for school!

I roll over in my bed so that I can reach out to grab my phone. It's 8:50, school starts at 9:00. Crap! I spring out of my bed and run down the stairs to the kitchen. There's a note on the bench and I walk over to it quickly.

It reads: Hi honey! Got back early this morning and you father got called into work, to start the audition process for his new movie. I decided that I would go into town with some friends I haven seen in a while. Make sure you drive Theo to school on time. Log you bye. -mum.

I sight and flop back against the cupboard. My dad's a huge movie director and he's in love with his job and I never see him anymore. Mum in the other hand works in the fashion industry but gets a lot of time off and she spends it 'hanging with friends.' I wish she'd spend it with me. Theo is my younger adopted brother that I actually only met last week. My parents always wanted a child but complained about the age difference there would be if they had one now and to be honest the whole though of it makes me want to be sick. Theo's 14 and kind of hates me. Our relationship is kind of a love hate relationship....my family is complicated.

I march back up the stairs to knock in Theo's bedroom, which is just across from mine. "Get up Theo! I'm taking you to school and we have about 5 minuets to get ready." I yell through the door, which is locked. "Go away! I don't want to go to school." He yells back. I let out a sign and place my hands on my head. I walk back over to my room and decide I'll just go to school in my sweat shirt and swear pants, I don't have time to change. I completely skip my makeup and put on a heavy layer of deodorant, as I did have no time to shower. I let my hair down lose, ignoring the nots and then throw a pair of vans on my feet. I grab my bag, phone and car Keys and realise it's two minuets to school starts....Oh no.

I pound anxiously on Theo's bedroom door and tell him to hurry up.
"Come on, Theo! We have to go before we are even more late!" I yell, trying to hide my burning frustration.
"I'm not going, Ava!" He yells back.
"Theo. I swear to god if you don't open this door right now, I will break it down myself." I say through gritted teeth.
"Go ahead!"
Moments later I find my foot colliding with door, to reveal Theo sitting on his bed on his phone. He looks up at me shocked but then shrugs and looks back down at his phone. Although he's only 14, he's got muscles and would be way stronger then me.
"Theo please just get in my car!" I semi-yell, trying as hard as i can to sound calm.
He looks up at me and smirks, then returns his gaze to his phone. I sigh and pull out my phone.

"Hey O'Brien. I need you and Posey to come to mine now. I need your help with something." I say through the phone, the whole time Theo ignoring me.

Minuets later Tyler and Dylan are by my side, staring at Theo, me and the broken down door. Dylan raises an eyebrow at me and Tyler just looks plain confused.

"Ok one I know I'm in my pjs. I woke up late and didn't have time to change. Two, this is my stubborn brother that my parents adopted last week and he the door is broken because he locked it and won't get in my car, so I can take him to school.
Theo looks up at them for a second, then looks back down at his phone, which a cheeky smile. His hair is brown like mine, almost the exact same colour. His eyes are a bright blue, where mine are a bright green and his hair is short and messy.

"You kicked the door down with your foot?" Dylan asks, looking at me Impressed.
"I took a summer class of karate."
"So you want us to pull him into your car?" Tpose asks and I nod.
"I figured I wouldn't be strong enough and you guys love me, so you'd do it." I laugh and so do Dylan and Tpose.
"Theo?" Dylan says and I watch as Theo looks up from his phone.
"Let's go to school." Dylan says, grinning widely.

Dylan and Tpose managed to drag Theo into the car and to my surprise he didn't protest. He just kept staring down at his phone and went with it. I said thanks to Dylan and Tyler as they drove off to school. I jumped into the car and locked the car doors so Theo wouldn't jump out. Jesus Christ he likes to make things hard for me.

I turn to look back over at Theo and he isn't on his phone anymore, he's staring at me. I look into his ocean, blue eyes and see sadness and loneliness in them but no tears escape. "I hate you." He breathes and returns his gaze to his phone. I was expecting him to say something like that so it doesn't hurt as much as I thought it would of.

We arrive at school and sure enough the bell has gone but at least we got here eventually. I jump out of the car and turn back to realise Theo isn't moving. I walk over to the car door and open it and star at Theo.
"I will drag you, if I have to." Theo ignores me and doesn't even look up from his phone. I decide I need to act fast.

I grab the phone from his hands and throw it in my bag. He then stands up and I close the door and lock the car. "What the hell Ava!" He yells, trying to grab his phone from me. I grab him by the arm and drag him across the school to his first class. He's strong but looks like I was just a little bit stronger. His first class was science and I dragged him into the room. A bund of year 9's were staring at me and Theo. "Ah this must be our new student!" The teacher yells and claps his hands like a child. Theo turns to face me and I see anger form in his eyes. "I hate you! You're not my sister, you'll never be my sister!" He whispers through gritted teeth and walk away further into his class. It hurts to here those words from him but he's a moody teenager, who doesn't have his real family anymore, so I expected nothing less.

I walk down the hall and turn left into my math class and everyone turns to look at me as I sigh loudly. Miss Luder just smile at me as I take a seat next to Dylan. "Hey." He whispers while smiling at me. "Hi." I say back, as I fumble around in my bag for a pen. "Did you get Theo to school?"
"Barley." I sigh. "He hates me."
"Just give him some time."
I nod and open a page of my notebook and start copying down equations from the board. Dylan leans closer into my ear and whispers something.
"I'm picking you up at 4:30." I stop writing and turn to look at him.
"Where are we going?"
"it's a surprise." He smiles and turns back to do his work.
I wonder where h e taking me?
