We all walked into the great hall and I stared at it with amazement, gripping more tightly onto the necklace I bore. There were four very long tables lined up along the way we were facing, which was forward, there was also a very long table at the end of the hall, which I could tell was the teachers table since well, there were teachers sitting at it. Candles were floating all around the hall, probably hundreds of them and pure silver silverware that was laid out at the tables.

The people at the table were probably what I noticed the most, everyone wore the same or very similar robes, a black long robe with a colored tie depending on the table and white dress shirt. There were also hundreds of them, which was the scariest thing of all. Not to mention we might be doing some sort of test in front of them, my stomach did a somersault at that thought.

A couple people pointed to the ceiling and I saw the beautiful sky, formed onto the ceiling of the great hall. Mcgonagall then lead us to the front of the room where the teachers are sitting, then went behind a pedestal that was in front of the teachers desk but, behind the students, in which she came back with a stool and hat in hand.

She then sat the hat down onto the stool, which seemed to be shaped as a which hat but was very tattered and old, a bunch of dust as well. As she sat it down and the whole hall went silent, there was a few whispers from the kids around me before a tear formed in the hat and it began to talk no, sing!

"Oh, you may not think I'm pretty,

But don't judge on what you see,

I'll eat myself if you can find

A smarter hat than me.

You can keep your bowlers black,

Your top hats sleek and tall,

For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat

And I can cap them all.

There's nothing hidden in your head

The Sorting Hat can't see,

So try me on and I will tell you

Where you ought to be.

You might belong in Gryffindor,

Where dwell the brave at heart,

Their daring, nerve and chivalry,

Set Gryffindors apart;

You might belong in Hufflepuff

Where they are just and loyal,

Those patient Hufflepuffs are true,

And unafraid of toil;

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,

If you've a ready mind,

Where those of wit and learning,

Will always find their kind;

Or perhaps in Slytherin,

You'll make your real friends,

Those cunning folk use any means,

To achieve their ends.

So put me on! Don't be afraid!

And don't get in a flap!

You're in safe hands (though I have none)

For I'm a Thinking Cap!"

The whole hall exploded into applause after the song was finished, sooner than later it died down to a few claps then stopped.

After all I thought? After what the twins said? All I have to do is try on a hat and it decide for me? It was still a little nerve racking since I am not sure what house I might be sorted into, and if I get into Slytherin I might as well skip class for several day. I also will have to get Ron to help me kill the twins later, since he seems to be a little angry as well.
