A/N: OKAY SO- This is a song by Ben Platt that I really, really love. I don't know what it is about the song but in a way it kind of reminds me about my relationship with my dad
But seriously Ben Platt is such an amazing human I can't even-
This idea was actually inspired by Sn0wy_The_Guinea_Pig (PLEASE PLEASE GO READ THEIR TREEBROS ONESHOT BOOK OH MY GOD IT'S AMAZING, AND THEIR TREEBROS FANFICTION, AND THEIR BOYF RIENDS FANFICTION... ACTUALLY JUST GO READ EVERYTHING-) We were discussing ideas for fanfictions while they were in the middle of their Share Your Address binge (another great song-) and this was originally going to be based solely off of Share Your Address, and then I found this song and I legitimately could not help myself.
Now, time for the actual last chapter of Spotlights!
PART ONE: Connor's POV
Connor watched Evan from where he sat on the ground, back against a tree. They were at the orchard again, a place they'd been frequenting a lot of their time since they'd graduated. Evan was currently struggling to climb a tree, Connor keeping a close eye on him. He'd already broken his arm once and while Evan was in a much better state of mental health, accidents still happened.
It was strange to think they were both adults now, able to do what they wanted and go where they pleased. It wasn't as if Connor didn't do that before, but now his parents' couldn't do shit about it. Which led him to what he was about to do.
"H-Hey, Con! Look!" Evan called from the top of the tree, and Connor glanced back up to see him waving frantically down at him. "I made it!"
Connor smiled and stood, slowly jogging to the bottom of the tree Evan occupied. Evan looked down from where he straddled the tree branch, grinning down at his boyfriend as Connor grinned back. He enjoyed seeing Evan like this, happy and free, able to finally take a break from the stress of living.
"Hey, um, Evan I wanted to ask you something!" Connor yelled up from the ground, ignoring the way his heart was pounding in his chest. Evan looked back down at him, face illuminated by the setting sun, and smiled. Connor felt all of his nerves melt away and a very sudden need to be closer to his boyfriend came over him as he reached for the lowest branch of the tree and hauled himself up.
Evan raised his eyebrow in question, and Connor kept climbing until he was seated on the branch directly across from Evan, legs dangling off the side.
"W-what's up?" Evan asked, leaning forward a bit to look at Connor, "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, no everything's fine, I just wanted to-um, I wanted to ask if maybe..." Connor trailed off, looking down to the ground, "A-actually never mind. It's nothing." He said, his eyes returning to Evan before giving him a reassuring smile.
Though Evan returned the smile, Connor could see the concern in his eyes.
"It's okay, you can ask me," Evan said, reaching his hand out in front of the trunk of the tree and began trying to maneuver himself over to the branch where Connor sat.
"Wait! Stay there, I'll come over to you." Connor said, putting a hand out to stop Evan. It took a bit of effort but Connor eventually got seated himself beside Evan. Neither said anything for a few moments, just sat there hand in hand.
Finally, Connor opened his mouth, not at all sure what he intended to say, and instead let the words flood out at their will. "I was maybe wondering... you know since we're both legal adults now and we don't exactly have the best home lives, I was thinking we could moveintogether-"
